Sales jobs in Austin your goal? The city's vibrancy and diversity is truly reflected in its employment landscape with trade, transport, utilities, mining, hospitality, and more recently, hi-tech-which gives Austin the nickname, Silicon Hills. A large number of technology companies have made Austin their home including 3M, Dell, Apple Inc., Google, Facebook, Hewlett-Packard, Applied Materials, Cisco Systems, eBay/PayPal, Intel Corporation, Samsung Group, and Oracle Corporation, to name a few. If tech isn't your thing, there are plenty of other companies in a range of industries such as Accenture, Whole Foods, Wal-Mart Stores, Charles Schwab, General Motors, HomeAway, Baylor Scott & White Healthcare, Pfizer and more. Another major employer in Austin is the medical sector with 11 hospitals in the city and many more in the surrounding areas (medical device sales or pharmaceutical sales anyone?). The film industry also continues to grow with many new movies filmed in Austin and of course, the Austin Film Festival and Conference and SXSW (both events are great networking opportunities!).

Needless to say, the job market in the beloved capital of the lone star state has really blossomed over the last decade - it's one of the fastest growing cities in America. With the median home price about $350,200 and a one-bedroom apartment rental about $1,100 + on average, the cost of living is low. It has a great bar, food, and music scene and with basically no winter, there is plenty to do outside. Town Lake is a local favorite for hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing or just going for a picnic. You can also take a boat cruise for great views of the city or go for a special bat tour to see the famous bat colony under the Congress Bridge. Barton Springs Pool is a natural pool fed by underwater springs which maintain a temperature of 68-70 degrees year-round - many Austinites love spending time here. If you like to shop you'll have plenty to choose from with the vintage stores in the North Loop, to the local businesses on Burnet Road, to major shopping destination, The Domain. Local tip - close by The Domain, Rock Rose, is uptown's destination for up late - a hot spot for young professionals and entrepreneurs. If you are an art enthusiast, the Blanton Museum of Art holds the primary art collections for Austin. For the music scene a very popular area is The Red River Cultural District which offers many cool music venues such as Barracuda, Cheerup Charlies, Mohawk, and Stubbs.

Of course a key ingredient for your sales job search is to build your network, and luckily Austin hosts some great networking groups. The Austin Young Chamber of Commerce Speaker Series holds a speaker series once a month for you to connect, collaborate and share ideas. The National Association of Professional Women holds meetings on a monthly basis featuring a guest speaker and powerful mentorship opportunities. For the guys there is The Young Men's Business League which holds monthly lunches, 5k/10k runs, workshops, spring and fall flings and more. The Austin Tech Happy Hour is a fun way to casually meet people in the tech industry. Whichever network you prefer, be sure to shake hands, ask questions, and practice sharing your story - your network can be of great value if you take the time to build it.
