Full description of the position

PURPOSE AND PERFORMANCE GOALS Solicit and capture social and catering only functions (that may include rooms), while maximizing the banquet space to meet and ideally exceed catering revenue goals. Position is responsible for booking and event managing catering business. Recommends program and procedural changes. CATERING SALES ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): 1. Sales and Client Management: Develop and implement action plans to target new and existing accounts, aiming to meet and exceed sales revenue expectations. This includes leveraging a personal network and a developed "book of clientele." Maintain and grow relationships with customers, competitive sets, and community and professional organizations to enhance visibility and increase market share. 2. Market Analysis and Strategic Planning: Analyze market trends, competition, and customer needs to adapt strategies that maximize revenue and achieve sales goals. Execute territorial marketing strategies and conduct regular analyses of hotel performance to ensure alignment with revenue and sales objectives. 3. Proposal and Contract Management: Qualify leads, negotiate and finalize catering packages, room rates, and hotel services within booking guidelines. Prepare and follow up on proposals and contracts to close business effectively. Ensure the processing of definite contracts and coordinate the information flow through the hotel's administrative process. 4. Operational Coordination: Plan and detail events with clients, including space requirements, schedules, equipment, menus, and themes. Coordinate with hotel departments to ensure service delivery and resolve any issues to ensure customer satisfaction. Initiate payment processes, handle initial deposits, and oversee billing setups prior to transitioning responsibilities to the Event Services Manager. 5. Revenue Maximization: Actively solicit new business and repeat clients through various sales efforts such as outside calls, telemarketing, and networking. Maximize banquet space utilization and sell all hotel facets, including dining, spa, and additional services, to meet revenue targets. 6. Reporting and Compliance: Prepare regular status and end-period reports to assess productivity and sales achievements. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry practices, hotel procedures, and competitive landscape to refine sales strategies continually. 7. Professional Development and Engagement: Engage in professional organizations and community activities to maintain high visibility and promote sales. Maintain professional communication with guests and colleagues, ensuring positive interactions and adherence to corporate and hotel standards. 8. Special Projects and Additional Responsibilities: Undertake special projects, participate in task forces and committees as necessary to support business needs and organizational objectives. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - Not applicable QUALIFICATIONS Requires thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures of the catering, food and beverage, menu development and pricing. Requires knowledge of the hotel's policies and procedures and the ability to determine course of action based on these guidelines. Requires ability to investigate and analyze current activities and/or information involving readily available data and indicating logical conclusions and recommendations. Must possess communication skills in terms of the ability to negotiate, convince, sell and influence professionals and/or hotel guests. Ability to drive to outside sales calls. Excellent hearing required for verbal interaction with guests and Employees. Excellent vision required for viewing set-ups. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE More than two years of post high school education, but less than a degree from a four-year college. Experience required by position is from one to two full years of employment in a related position with this hotel or other hospitality organization(s). LANGUAGE SKILLS Excellent speech communication skills required for verbal interaction with guests and Employees. Excellent comprehension and literacy required to develop marketing plan, create menus and programs, etc. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Not applicable PHYSICAL DEMANDS Practice written safety standards and rules at all times. Mobility - ability to service clients on a moments notice, variable distances. Continuous standing - function observation, client site inspections (one hour minimum to four hours maximum). HOURS Due to the business demands of the hospitality industry, and the fact that the hotel provides guest services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, any employee may be required to work rotating shifts, including weekends and night shifts.
