The Gift Shop Sales Associate is responsible for administrative and merchandising work in the Friends of MacArthur Beach State Park Gift Shop and rental fleet. * Assists in the efficient operation of a quality retail sales operation and rental fleet * Demonstrate computer technical skills including Point of Sale registers * Have the ability to work with a volunteer and paid staff * Responsible for cash handling, membership and donation processing * Collaborates with Gift Shop leadership to meet sales goals and overall organization and improvements to Gift Shop The Gift Shop Sales Associate will be responsible for: * Communicating regularly with E-Commerce and Sales Manager on all operational activities * Handling cash, credit card transactions; membership and donation processing * Upholding Sales Manager plan for merchandise stocking * Ensuring high level of customer service is being delivered throughout day by staff and volunteers * Upholding the quality control of kayak rental program which includes rentals to guests; and caring for rental kayak and Standup Paddle Board fleet and related equipment * Ensuring all accounting procedures are being followed: cashiering of merchandise sales, maintaining sale records; and daily reports * Performing any range of special projects associated with the tracking, recording, audit, reconciliation or compilation of data or transactions related to retail sales, as directed or special projects as requested * This position will also have the option of facilitating the Friends evening paddle programs. Depending on skillset and desire to be a part of the programming, training will be provided. Physical Gift Shop: With supervision of Sales Manager: * Maintaining a clean store at all times, ability and willingness to follow cleaning schedule. * Provide excellent customer service to the public to all in store and rental areas, including ability to resolve customer and operational problems * Ensure products are displayed properly on sales floor and that goods are replaced, pulled, and rotated on a regular basis. * Being present and able to open and close physical Gift Shop during regular operating hours and as needed for special events; including closing the register and complete end of day reporting * Ensuring accurate weather warnings are displayed and communicated for guest safety * Supervise cashiering and receipting the sale of merchandise by cash and charge transactions and performs such duties as required; assist with sales records and daily reports * Ensure in-store accounting procedures are being followed; balance sales receipts at end of shift; and complete daily sales and cash reports as necessary Inventory Management: With supervision of Sales Manager: * Process shipments, tag merchandise, and ensure orderly storage and inventory of items are maintained * Ensuring an accurate inventory record of finished goods is maintained * Conducting regular inventory checks, per E-Commerce and Sales Manager's discretion Online Gift Shop: ; With supervision of Sales Manager: * Collaborating with Sales Manager to related aspects of the company's web presence * Understanding of processes and procedures for online gift shop orders; including but not limited to processing and shipping orders; and handling returns/broken merchandise transactions The statements contained in this position description reflect general details as necessary to describe the principal functions of this position, the level of knowledge and skill typically required, and the scope of responsibility. Required Skills/Abilities * At least two years of Retail Sales experience * At least two years of experience handling online and in-person cash and credit card transactions * Excellent computer skills: proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required; experience with Point of Sale system required * Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail Essential Functions Employee must be able to: stand for periods of 8 hours; sit for periods of 4 hours; lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs; communicate both verbally in writing and in English (in person and using phone, Zoom, and email); must be able to navigate uneven terrain, walking on sand, trails and over roots; navigate ladders and/or step stools; must be able to bend, crouch, and kneel for less than 1 hour at a time. Have near visual acuity, far visual acuity, and peripheral vision; maintain visual and auditory supervision of program participants at a range of 50 feet; work on a computer including typing and navigating with a mouse for up to 8 hours at a time; consistently work in an outdoor setting with extreme weather conditions including but not limited to: hot, sunny, humid, rainy, and/or cold days. Be able to be at work on time and work required hours determined by supervisor. Employee must know, respect, and follow safety policies and procedures related to this field of work and ensure that volunteers follow same.
