Job Overview *WEEKENDS REQUIRED St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store is looking to fill a part-time Sales Associate position. Please note, weekends are required for this position. This position provides excellent customer service by accurately processing transactions, assisting with customer inquires, and maintaining a welcoming shopping environment. Sales Associates collaborate with other team members to meet sales goals and create a positive, collaborative workplace. Reports to/Supervision Received: Manager: Thrift Store Manager, Thrift Store Assistant Manager, Lead Sales Associate Direct Supervisor: Lead Sales Associate Supervisory Responsibilities: None Essential Functions: * Customer Relations * Process transactions accurately and efficiently. * Assist customers with inquiries and provide excellent customer service. * Collaborate with the team to ensure a positive and welcoming shopping experience for all customers. * Monitor customer behavior and report any suspicious activities in alignment with store policies and procedures. * Sales Area * Maintain the sales floor by organizing products and ensuring a clean and safe environment. * Assist with stocking shelves and organizing displays. * Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay informed about store policies and procedures. * Provide support to fellow team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. * Financial and Cash Handling Responsibilities * Adhere to proper cash handling procedures at all times. * Performing end-of-day and beginning-of-day cash register procedures. * Perform cash register duties, including processing sales and handling vouchers. * Safety * Follow all safety procedures and standards to ensure a safe working environment. * Report any accidents or injuries to the supervisor immediately, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up. * Sales/Marketing * Assist with online sales by helping to prepare items for shipping and maintaining accurate listings. * Policies & Procedures * Uphold and adhere to all company and store policies and procedures. * Report any instances of harassment or discrimination to the supervisor in accordance with company policies. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: * Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required: * High school diploma or equivalent preferred * Minimum Experience required: * Previous experience in a retail setting, 1-3 years preferred. * Previous experience with a Point of Sale (POS) system, 1-3 years preferred. * Previous experience with cash handling, 1-3 years preferred. * Skills Required * Proficient in English with strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and support fellow team members. * Exhibit exceptional customer service skills, adept at handling challenging situations and consistently meeting or exceeding customer expectations to foster repeat business and customer loyalty. * Strong multitasking and prioritization skills, capable of adapting to changing priorities in a dynamic retail environment. * Proficient in operating and navigation Point of Sale (POS) systems. Description of Physical Job Duties & Working Conditions: Typical Working Conditions: * The work environment may vary, but typically involves an indoor setting within the Thrift Store premises. * Exposure to varying temperatures may occur and depends on the climate control system of the store. * Limited exposure to fumes, chemicals, and allergens, primarily associated with cleaning products and potential donations. Equipment Used: * Cash register/point-of-sale system. * Cleaning equipment such as brooms, mops, and vacuum cleaners. * Tagging guns. Essential Physical Tasks: * Using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls during various tasks such as pricing items, rearranging merchandise, or operating equipment. * Standing and walking for extended periods while performing tasks such as assisting customers, and merchandising the sales floor. * Operating a cash register, which involves standing, verbal communication with customers, typing, tapping on a touch screen, handling cash, moving items across the counter, packaging items (wrapping fragile items, bagging), reaching across the counter, and occasionally lifting. * Lifting and carrying items of various weights and sizes. * Bending, stooping, and reaching to stock shelves, organize merchandise, or retrieve items for customers. * Climbing ladders or step stools to access inventory stored at height or to perform maintenance tasks.
