Full description of the position
Expectations The OSR would be responsible for 50 stores from Redding to Tehachapi, covering Market 29 (Districts 51, 172, 20, 325 and 327). The OSR is expected to work as an exempt outside salesperson and manager, as well as follow KNI policies and procedures. The job description is meant to improve the OSR's understanding of what is expected and the professionalism that should be exhibited towards KNI's customers - it is what the OSR will be measured against when their performance is evaluated in the future. KNI expects that all of its OSRs are spending more than half of their working time engaged in outside sales activities or performing managerial tasks. Managerial tasks include such things as recruiting, directing the work of hourly employees, handling day-to-day personnel issues, addressing employee concerns, hiring, training, scheduling, performance coaching and counseling, evaluation and termination of employees, conducting meetings, delegating daily tasks, resolving customer complaints and concerns, teaching/coaching employees on techniques, marketing and interfacing with management on how best to serve KNI's customers and supervise its employees. Further, OSRs must ensure hourly employees take their requisite meal and rest break periods and are appropriately compensated for all hours worked, and at no time work off the clock. OSRs hold an important leadership position in the company, and the company relies on OSRs to spend the majority of their time performing these specific job responsibilities. If an OSR ever believes that they are spending less than 50% of their time engaged in outside sales activities or performing managerial tasks, they should immediately report it to the OSRs direct manager or Human Resources. Job Duties An OSR's goals are: (1) to maximize sales of product at each assigned store; (2) to minimize unsold product at each assigned store; and (3) to effectively manage your team's merchandising quality, efficiency and costs. The OSR serves as a critical field component in selling and obtaining orders for each store in his/her territory and in the overall day-to-day merchandising execution at the store level. An OSR is expected to regularly work more than half of their working time engaged in sales activities and performing managerial tasks outside of KNI. In other words, an OSR is expected to be selling to KNI's customers and managing two or more merchandisers out in the field. An OSR's job duties include the following: Sales Work to optimize the constantly changing balance of driving sales while managing scan rate, merchandising quality and merchandising cost Assist in managing and optimizing product flow into each store with Replenishment team Adjust ordering and product mix strategies based on changing feedback from stores, merchandising team, consumer demographics by store and sales reports Work with Replenishment, Sales Administrator, Availability and Distribution teams on corporate walk orders and any issues such as tagging, bar code scanning, ad items, special orders and delivery date adjustments Customer Relationship Develop and maintain relationship with all corporate, store and nursery managers to identify product opportunities in an effort to improve business relationship and results Solicit feedback from stores, employees and customers on a regular basis to log in a monthly feedback workbook that is emailed to Home Depot account team monthly Team Management Recruit, hire and develop your merchandising team Manage and budget your overall labor spend as a percent of sales Audit and approve any edits to employee time cards and mileage Performance manage your team for all needs including promotions, areas for improvement and terminations when necessary Maintain optimal store visit schedule based on total sales volume, order deadlines, high volume sales days, and delivery days Coach through constant feedback, training sessions, announced/unannounced walks, and quarterly and annual performance evaluations Merchandising Train team to execute company standards in merchandise quality, plan-o-gram execution, signage standards, and pricing needs Implement and follow up on merchandiser Daily Task List email sent from each store a minimum of each delivery day that includes photos, product requests, rack pickup information, and any other notes for District Supervisor and Home Depot account team Implement and follow up on Store Watering Procedure Conduct different ordering and display experiments to test impact on goals Request, or train Merchandise Lead(s) to request Mobile Merchandising Units (MMU) Model of a Typical Week Monday Follow up on deliveries, recovery from weekend sales, and product requests from stores Drive a district lap to ensure stores are up to standards Review last week's timesheets and mileage Tuesday Follow up on deliveries, recovery from weekends sales, and product requests from stores Review sales performance numbers from previous week Drive sales at bottom 50% of performing stores by ensuring those stores have enough of the right product or that additional product has been requested for next order and by ensuring merchandising is up to KNI standards Wednesday/Thursday Follow up on deliveries and product requests from stores Prep for weekend sales Work with your teams on merchandising training and development Friday Follow up on deliveries and new product requests from stores Drive a district lap to ensure store readiness for weekend sales Saturday/Sunday (as needed) Weekend deliveries usually occur during peak sales periods such as the spring and poinsettia seasons Lend a hand to your teams and work with them to get the day completed Compensation OSRs will be paid a salary that will be paid in accordance with KNI's normal payroll procedures. From time to time, the company, as the employer, may give a discretionary bonus. The decision to give a discretionary bonus and the amount of each discretionary bonus is determined at the sole discretion of the company. The decision to give a one-time discretionary bonus is not a contract, agreement or promise of any future bonuses. Vehicle and Insurance Requirements and Reimbursement Each OSR must be equipped with a suitable vehicle as an essential part of accomplishing the job duties. OSRs must report all mileage driven on KNI business through the TSheets application. OSRs must obtain insurance for their vehicle as required by law. Upon request, OSRs must provide documentation to demonstrate they are carrying adequate liability insurance. Paid Time Off Paid Time Off (PTO) is earned as set forth in the KNI employee handbook. OSRs are encouraged to take any time off during slower periods of the year, typically July through December. All vacation time off must be approved by the OSRs direct manager one month in advance of the vacation date, using the KNI Sales Vacation Call Schedule and the KNI Request for Time Off Form. General Representation of Company OSRs shall conduct themselves at all times with due regard to public conventions and morals. OSRs shall not do or commit any act that will tend to degrade or bring KNI into public hatred, contempt or ridicule, or tend to shock or offend the community in which the OSR represents KNI, or which prejudices KNI in general. All KNI policies must be strictly adhered to by all OSRs. Dress Code Policy for OSRs KNI requires its OSRs to look professional at all times. KNI OSRs should always be appropriately dressed and appear comfortable in any business situation. The dress code is business casual, clarified below. Acceptable Attire Includes: Specifically designed collared shirts, jackets, and blouses (provided by KNI) with the company's logo and colors are acceptable. Slacks, button-down and collared shirts, blazers, sports jackets, styled jackets, khaki or cotton styled pants, dresses, skirts, pant suits, blouses and sweaters are acceptable. There may be events or trade shows where more formal wear is required. All OSRs are expected to be professionally groomed and aware of proper hygiene. Hair must be kept neat and appropriate. Facial hair must be kept neatly groomed. *Order Processing & Fulfillment KNI requires its OSRs to follow all sales procedures in order to service our customers and fulfill orders as effectively as possible.
