Full description of the position
Company Context We are a private equity-backed, multi-division B2B organization. Growth has been deliberate and values-driven, achieved through the acquisition of family- founded, family-run businesses that share a common operating philosophy: disciplined financial stewardship, long-term customer relationships, strong reputations in their markets, and deep care for employees. The company has scaled over time by preserving what makes these businesses successful while adding the structure and resources needed to support growth. Today, the organization continues to pursue selective acquisitions with a long-term ownership mindset and a focus on building a durable, well-run enterprise. Role Overview The Vice President of Human Resources is an enterprise-level leadership role responsible for evolving the HR function into a business-first, operations- minded partner across a geographically distributed, operationally complex organization. This role exists to strengthen and modernize the people function--building capabilities that scale with the business while preserving the entrepreneurial culture that has made the company successful. The Vice President of Human Resources will be accountable for establishing the frameworks, operating discipline, and leadership practices required to support growth, while remaining flexible enough to support diverse operating environments, leadership styles, and local realities. The successful candidate will be comfortable: * Operating across multiple locations and business contexts * Partnering with leaders who value practical judgment over theory * Translating legal and compliance requirements into clear guidance and workable options * Bringing perspective, sound judgment, and a steady leadership presence to complex situations This role will also play a central role in the company's acquisition strategy, including people-related due diligence, integration planning, and post- acquisition execution. The Vice President of Human Resources will help design and maintain repeatable integration playbooks that professionalize people systems and leadership practices without institutionalizing or homogenizing the culture that underpins the company's performance and reputation. This is a business-first HR leadership role. Success requires an HR executive who sees their role as enabling the business--not policing it--and who can operate with credibility, financial literacy, and influence at the executive level. Key Responsibilities HR Strategy & Operating Model * Assess the current HR organization, capabilities, and operating model * Define and execute an HR strategy aligned with business priorities and growth plans * Establish clear roles, decision rights, and accountability across HR disciplines * Introduce consistency and operating rigor without over-centralization Compensation, Job Architecture & Total Rewards * Establish a clear, defensible compensation philosophy aligned with the company's ownership mindset and business strategy * Modernize job architecture, leveling, and role clarity across the organization * Lead market benchmarking and ensure competitiveness and internal equity * Strengthen internal capability in sales and incentive compensation design * Partner closely with Finance on workforce planning, cost management, and tradeoff analysis Talent, Leadership & Retention * Build clear career frameworks that support development, progression, and retention * Strengthen leadership development and succession planning * Enable leaders to identify, develop, and retain high-potential talent * Improve engagement and retention by aligning growth opportunities with performance and capability Executive Partnership & Business Enablement * Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO, executive leadership, and divisional leaders * Translate people initiatives into clear, financially grounded business cases * Use data, KPIs, and analysis to inform decision-making and build alignment * Balance risk management with commercial and operational realities M &A Support and Integration * Support people-related due diligence for acquisitions * Design scalable, repeatable HR integration playbooks * Ensure acquired businesses are integrated effectively while preserving what makes them successful Who This Role Is For This role is well-suited for an HR operator who: * Brings a business-first mindset and understands how organizations actually create value * Is grounded, practical, and action-oriented--not overly academic or theoretical * Is financially literate and fluent in P&L dynamics, cost structures, and tradeoffs * Has built influence with senior leaders through credibility, judgment, and results * Uses data, KPIs, and financial analysis to drive people strategy and decision-making * Can clearly articulate the ROI, risk mitigation, cost savings, or growth impact of HR initiatives * Is comfortable operating in complex, multi-site environments where influence must be earned Experience with direct financial accountability, operating leadership, or P&L ownership is strongly preferred. Who This Role Is Not For This role is unlikely to be a fit for candidates who: * Prefer highly centralized, corporate HR environments * Rely primarily on policy enforcement or rigid process * Struggle to connect people strategies to financial outcomes * Require mature systems or perfect data before taking action Why This Role Matters Leadership believes the next phase of the company's growth depends on: * Stronger, more commercially grounded people infrastructure * Leadership capability and succession depth * Scalable systems that support growth without bureaucracy * An HR function that reinforces accountability, ownership, and long-term value creation Value Proposition This role offers meaningful scope, executive visibility, and the opportunity to build something durable. Job Type: Full-time Benefits: * 401(k) * Dental insurance * Employee assistance program * Flexible schedule * Health insurance * Health savings account * Life insurance * Paid time off * Parental leave * Vision insurance Work Location: In personConfidential
