Full description of the position
Job Purpose: This position involves planning and implementing a regular schedule of visits to current and prospective customers, in order to promote product sales. A key responsibility is to obtain and communicate a high level of product knowledge regarding application, as well as an understanding of our customers and how we can best help them solve business challenges. Essential Functions of the Job: * Plans and organizes a sales program and schedule to call on current and prospective customers. * Travels to current and potential customer locations to generate sales and maintain customer accounts. * Obtains all available information regarding products to be presented. * Telephones and schedules visits to current customers on a regular basis to discuss product needs. * Introduces, demonstrates, and specifies new products to purchasing, maintenance, and engineering departments. * Quotes prices, assists customers in pricing bills of materials, and persuades customers to call in orders to inside sales; may write orders occasionally. * Advises and assists customers in resolving technical questions relative to product applications. * Solicits new business by making "cold calls" on prospective customers. * Provides sales management with feedback regarding customer's financial condition, competitive products, creative selling techniques, etc. * Provides customers with appropriate catalogs, price sheets, and technical literature regarding products. * Follows up on all major customer projects by staying in contact with the customer and tracking progress of the projects. * Submits sales reports as required. * Develops and makes sales presentations to customers. * Maintains all aspects of work place organization. * Performs other duties, as assigned. Organizational Relationships: * Frequent contact with current and prospective customers. * Periodic contact with vendors and with company personnel such as purchasing, shipping, accounting, credit and collections. * Qualifications Guidelines * Experience/Training/Education: * Required:* Requires a combination of general high school education or equivalent plus two years of advanced college or technical training in the electrical field, including Ohms Law and AC/DC Theory, plus 3 to 5 years experience in electrical wholesale counter and/or inside sales, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. * Desirable:* Experience as electrician or electrical engineer. * Pag Break Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Requires extensive knowledge and understanding of electrical products and their applications; knowledge of opportunities in the market; understanding of business strategy of market area. Ability to influence others or gain acceptance in sensitive situations; ability to respect individual differences and be comfortable with all cultures; knowledge of office practices, business correspondence techniques and English composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation; principles of customer service, public relations and communications; time management and records management; ability to effectively use computer applications, including Microsoft Office, ERP, and CRM systems. Ability to accept constructive criticism; Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; to maintain the confidentiality of data; collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and derive correlation as necessary; Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete tasks independently; Ability to make recommendations; Ability to solve complex, multi-faceted problems; Ability to take a broad view and analyze problems in a balanced manner. Ability to listen and communicate clearly, to make effective sales presentations, and to create a comfortable environment with customers, sales representatives, staff, management, and other employees. * Physical and Environmental Elements: This is an office classification, but also requires time outside the office calling on customers. While working in an office, this position is exposed to moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. May work offsite at various locations in various environments. Extensive travel is required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Must be able to speak clearly. The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls, lifts and carries materials that may weigh up to 75 pounds. Frequently operates a vehicle and is exposed to traffic conditions that include loud noises, fumes, traffic congestion. May be exposed to extreme heat, as well as rain. * Special Requirements/Certification: Valid California Driver License and driver record that allows for insurability.Honsador Lumber LLC.
