Full description of the position

A Custom Fabrication Sales job involves selling specialized, made-to-order products (like metal parts, structures) by understanding client needs, collaborating with engineering/production, creating technical quotes, and managing accounts to drive revenue, requiring strong technical understanding, communication, negotiation, and industry knowledge to bridge client specs with manufacturing capabilities. Key duties include prospecting, site visits, presenting proposals, using CRM, attending trade shows, and meeting sales targets. Key Responsibilities * Client Acquisition: Generate leads, cold call, attend industry events/trade shows, and develop assigned territories. * Needs Analysis: Meet with clients (architects, engineers, owners) to understand detailed project requirements, often involving blueprints/ schematics. * Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, estimating, and production teams to ensure technical feasibility, accurate costing, and timely delivery. * Proposal Management: Prepare, submit, and negotiate complex bids and proposals, ensuring alignment with client needs and company capabilities. * Account Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing key accounts and develop new ones. * Sales & Reporting: Meet sales targets, use CRM software, provide forecasts, and track competitor activity. Essential Skills & Qualifications * Technical Aptitude: Understanding of fabrication processes (cutting, welding, CNC), materials (metal, plastic), and ability to read prints/ schematics. * Sales Expertise: Proven track record in consultative selling, negotiation, presentation, and closing deals. * Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to bridge the gap between technical teams and clients. * Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with target markets (aerospace, construction, industrial). Travel: Willingness to travel frequently for client visits and events. Core Responsibilities * Business Development: Actively prospect for new clients through cold calling, networking, and attending industry trade shows to build a sales pipeline. * Consultative Quoting: Review technical drawings, blueprints, and RFQs (Requests for Quotation) to understand project scope and prepare detailed proposals. * Technical Liaison: Collaborate with internal engineering and production teams to ensure custom designs are feasible and costeffective. * Estimation Support: Assist in \"material take-offs\" and labor man-hour assignments to ensure accurate project bidding. * Contract Negotiation: Finalize payment terms, project schedules, and terms & conditions to meet revenue and margin goals. Required Skills & Qualifications * Technical Proficiency: The ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and complex schematics is essential. * Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of fabrication processes such as welding (MIG/TIG}, CNC machining, laser cutting, and bending. * Sales Strategy: Experience in consultative, B2B sales within industrial or manufacturing sectors. * Software Skills: Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), ERP programs, and Microsoft Office. * Education: Many roles require a Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or Engineering, though extensive relevant industry experience is often accepted. * Typical Environment * Fast-paced, often involving a mix of office work (CRM, quoting) and significant time in the field (client sites, trade shows). * Requires both independent work and teamwork.
