About SteelSmith SteelSmith is a full-service recycling and waste hauling company supporting commercial construction, manufacturing, demolition, and industrial operations throughout the Tampa Bay area. We don't sell commodities -- we provide professional project support. Our customers rely on us to keep jobsites clean, compliant, and moving on schedule. That means showing up, communicating clearly, and doing what we say we're going to do. We're growing, and we're looking for Business Development Managers who know how to work in the construction world -- people who are comfortable on jobsites, can speak the language of GCs and superintendents, and aren't afraid to walk in, introduce themselves, and build real relationships. This Role Is NOT For Everyone This is outside sales. You will be: * Walking active jobsites * Meeting with superintendents, project managers, and estimators * Prospecting in person, not just by phone or email * Managing accounts from first conversation through long-term partnership If your background is primarily recruiting, medical/pharma, or inside sales -- this is likely not a fit. The Role As a Business Development Manager , you will be responsible for growing and managing a book of business across: * Construction & demolition (C&D) waste hauling * Commercial dumpster service * Scrap metal recycling programs You'll be compensated with a base salary plus uncapped monthly commission , with clear production goals reviewed weekly. High performers build long-term accounts and significant recurring income. You will report directly to the Director of Business Development. What You'll Be Doing * Prospect and develop new accounts through jobsite visits, referrals, and active outreach * Build relationships with GCs, PMs, superintendents, estimators, and operations managers * Manage accounts end-to-end: setup, service coordination, issue resolution, and follow-up * Identify upcoming projects and expansion opportunities within existing accounts * Maintain accurate CRM activity and pipeline management * Consistently hit and exceed activity and revenue goals * Represent SteelSmith with professionalism, confidence, and urgency Who We're Looking For You likely have: * 2+ years of outside B2B sales experience (construction, industrial, or services preferred) * Comfort walking onto jobsites and speaking with field leadership * A competitive mindset and strong personal accountability * The ability to manage multiple opportunities at once * Strong follow-up and organization skills * Confidence talking to everyone from hard hats to executives * A track record of consistent employment and results You are: * Self-directed and motivated by performance-based pay * Relationship-driven, but not afraid to ask for the business * Comfortable working independently in the field * Adaptable in a fast-growing company * Someone who takes pride in doing things right the first time Requirements * Bachelor's degree preferred * Minimum 2 years of proven sales experience * Reliable, presentable transportation * Willingness to travel throughout the service area * Ability to work independently in a hybrid/field-based role Compensation & Benefits * Base salary (Paid Weekly) + uncapped commission (paid monthly) * Realistic total compensation range: $65,000 -$150,000+ * 401(k) with company match * Health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance * Paid time off * Cell phone reimbursement * Flexible schedule * Referral program Job Type: Full-time Pay: $65,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year Benefits: * 401(k) matching * Cell phone reimbursement * Dental insurance * Disability insurance * Flexible schedule * Health insurance * Life insurance * Paid time off * Prescription drug insurance * Referral program * Retirement plan * Vision insurance Experience: * Business development: 2 years (Required) * Sales: 2 years (Required) Work Location: Hybrid remote in Tampa, FL 33619Steelsmith, Inc.
