Duties * Perform detailed eye examinations utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to assess visual acuity, ocular health, and overall eye function. * Diagnose and manage common eye conditions such as refractive errors, glaucoma, cataracts and other ocular diseases with precision and professionalism. * Prescribe corrective lenses, including glasses and contact lenses, based on thorough assessments aligned with patient needs. * Maintain accurate medical records using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. * Educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and treatment options, fostering informed decision-making. * Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals on complex cases requiring specialized intervention or surgical referral. * Utilize knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology to interpret diagnostic results accurately. * Adhere to aseptic techniques during examinations to ensure patient safety and prevent infections. * Manage vital signs and other relevant health metrics as part of comprehensive patient assessments. * Engage in optical sales by recommending appropriate eyewear solutions that meet both clinical needs and customer preferences while providing excellent customer service. * Stay current with advancements in ophthalmology, medical coding practices, and EMR/EHR systems to enhance service delivery. Qualifications * Valid state licensure as an Optometrist with certification to practice within the designated jurisdiction. * Extensive knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye health. * Proven experience in optical services, pediatrics, or general optometry practice preferred. * Familiarity with HIPAA regulations governing patient privacy and data security. * Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems for documentation and record management. * Strong skills in patient care combined with excellent communication abilities to foster trust and rapport. * Ability to interpret medical records accurately and apply medical coding standards effectively for billing purposes. * Demonstrated competence in performing comprehensive eye exams while maintaining aseptic technique standards. * Knowledge of sales strategies related to optical products is a plus for enhancing patient satisfaction through product recommendations.
