Full description of the position
SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: Directs and coordinates activities of engineering department to design and manufacture product and systems by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. The Engineering Manager supervises and manages all project managers and project designers at the NWPC Park facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * Present project-specific solutions to civil, plumbing, and mechanical engineering customers * Assist sales team during the project bid phase by providing design review and confirming appropriate product design * Provide project and technical support for submittals drawings, production, and product delivery * Maintain engineering standards and procedures * Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs and improve production techniques. * Analyzes technological trends and market demand for plant projects. * Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications. * Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems. * Directs integration of technical activities and products. * Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases. * Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget. * Prepares interim and completion project reports. * Confers with management, production and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products. * Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests. * Other duties as assigned. * Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is necessary in order to perform the essential functions of this position. JOB SCOPE: The individual works within established guidelines with some decision-making authority including: * Responsible to design, manufacture and deliver projects in within established budgets. * Provides design solutions related to customer needs per industry standards such as UPC, IPC, IAPMO, ASME , etc. * Provides in plant design solutions to meet industry standards such as OHSA, NEC, etc. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Directly supervise 2-6 employees in the Engineering department. * Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: * Daily direct and electronic interaction with Engineering Employees regarding all aspects of engineering projects. * Daily phone and electronic interaction with Customers regarding project scope and schedule. * Daily direct and electronic contact with Operations management, Plant management and lead men regarding all aspects of project manufacturing and scheduling. * Weekly phone and electronic interaction with company sales personnel regarding project scope and schedule. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. * Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and CAD applications. * Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. * Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. * Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. * Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. * Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. * Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: * College degree in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical) and 7-10 years of project management or leadership experience in the engineering, manufacturing, construction, or heavy highway industries. * Equivalent combination of education and experience. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: * Professional Engineer License strongly preferred. * Membership in ASCE is preferred.
