POSITION TITLE: Development Associate - Major Gifts & Research Focus REPORTS TO: Executive Director SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY: Interns and volunteers as needed. SALARY RANGE: $60,000 - $65,000 JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full-time/Salary LOCATION: On-site (Brooklyn, NY, hybrid optional upon approval) EVALUATION: Yearly, with Quarterly check-ins ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW Hope Ignites New York was formally incorporated in 1979. For more than 40 years, the organization has been expanding from a single home in Staten Island serving only boys to residential and academy offerings in Brooklyn that serve young men and women from all five boroughs of New York City. Hope Ignites provides two unique but complementary pathways to meet young people's needs. Our Academy provides year-round, out-of-school time programming to help scholars thrive and progress through high school while preparing them for life and educational success after graduation. Our Residential pathway offers a loving, structured home for scholars who need one, along with scholarships, wrap-around support, and connections to internships and jobs for collegians and alumni. ROLE SUMMARY The Development Associate is a strategic partner to the Executive Director in advancing Hope Ignites fundraising initiatives. This role is central to building and supporting a robust major gifts program, leading prospect research, managing grants, creating actionable donor analytics, and providing seamless event support. The ideal candidate is data-driven, highly skilled in prospect research, and experienced in leveraging Salesforce to build dashboards, track moves management, and support relationship development with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporate partners. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Prospect Research & Major Gifts Support * Conduct comprehensive research on individual, foundation, and corporate prospects to identify and qualify new funding opportunities. * Develop detailed donor profiles and briefing documents for the ED and board members ahead of meetings and events. * Manage moves management tracking in Salesforce to support donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. * Partner with the ED to expand and strengthen Hope Ignites major gifts pipeline through strategic prospecting and donor engagement plans. Grants Management * Identify and research prospective grant opportunities aligned with Hope Ignites mission. * Support the drafting, editing, and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports. * Maintain a grant tracking system for deadlines, outcomes, and reporting requirements to ensure timely submissions. * Assist in developing metrics and narratives for grant reports in collaboration with program staff. Donor Data Analytics & Reporting * Design, build, and maintain comprehensive Salesforce dashboards that deliver real-time insights into donor activity, giving trends, and campaign performance, enabling the ED, board, and development team to make data-driven decisions. * Analyze donor behavior and giving history to identify patterns, forecast revenue, and uncover opportunities for upgrading donors, re-engaging lapsed supporters, and deepening relationships with high-potential prospects. * Segment donor audiences for targeted cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts, using data to personalize outreach and maximize engagement. * Collaborate with development leadership to establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for fundraising initiatives, including donor retention, average gift size, pipeline growth, and event ROI. * Ensure data integrity and accuracy by establishing best practices for data entry, standardizing record-keeping protocols, and conducting regular audits of the Salesforce database. * Generate recurring and ad-hoc reports to support campaign analysis, board reporting, grant submissions, and strategic planning. Events Management * Plan and execute Hope Ignites fundraising events, including the Vision of Hope Gala, Women of Hope Benefit, and peer-to-peer marathon campaigns. * Oversee logistics, vendor relations, volunteer coordination, and day-of event execution. * Partner with the ED and board members on donor cultivation events, house gatherings, and stewardship receptions. Administrative & Organizational Support * Support daily office operations, including development mail, supplies, and file organization. * Assist with digitizing historical records and maintaining shared drive systems. * Provide scheduling and administrative support for donor meetings, team planning, and cross-departmental initiatives. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS (MINIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS): Education & Experience * Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or certification in fundraising/development strongly preferred. * 4-6 years of experience in nonprofit development with a focus on major gifts, prospect research, and grants management. * Proven track record in building donor pipelines and supporting major gift strategies. * Strong proficiency in Salesforce CRM, including building dashboards, running complex queries, and generating reports. * Experience managing fundraising events from planning through execution. * Exceptional research, analytical, and writing skills. * Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. * Commitment to the mission of educational equity and a passion for supporting youth success. Skills & Attributes * Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident copy editing and proofreading. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with Canva a plus. * Detail-oriented and comfortable managing sensitive donor data with discretion. * Self-motivated and proactive team player with a solutions-oriented mindset. * Passion for education equity and a genuine commitment to Hope Ignites mission and scholars.
