Job Overview The Business Travel Market Sales Manager is the primary on property sales person for local & national transient business, inbound transient business or Airlines. Partners with Marriott Global Sales team to achieve maximum volume on all national accounts with Marriott. This position is responsible for proactively soliciting and managing our local negotiated rates. Works to develop, build and maintain long-term, value-based customer relations in order to achieve personal and team related revenue goals. According the hotels need, can focus on all types of accounts or can specialize and focus on specific accounts (e.g., Corporate, Association, Government, Airlines). Ensures group or catering business is turned over properly and in timely fashion for proper service delivery. Responsible to learn how to support Marriott's service and relationship strategy, driving customer loyalty by delivering service excellence throughout each customer experience. Skills and Knowledge: * Ability to understand and execute and support Marriott customer service standards& Marriott brand standards. * Possesses excellent telephone sales skills * Superior guest relationship management and developments skills * Excellent selling skills and understanding of sales processes; can effectively up-sell products and services; can bring a sale to closure * Ability to manage guest room and meeting room inventories * Ability to manage and balance group and local business * Knowledge of operations and associated challenges for all brands * Knowledge of property-specific business segments (e.g. group, catering, transient) * Knowledge of all Marriott lodging products, cultures and brand strategies * Knowledge of contractual agreements and legal implications * Knowledge of food trends, food and beverage composition and menu planning * Knowledge of event technology products and services * Knowledge of food and beverage forecasting and attrition (Catering focused) * Knowledge of guest room forecasting and attrition (Guest Room focused) * Knowledge of need time strategy as developed by Revenue Management * Strong customer and development and relationship management skills * Knowledge of group, extended stay and transient business * Understands revenue management functions and account profitability * Broad understanding of facility management (sanitation, maintenance, operations) * Knowledge of purchasing, inventory controls, supplies and equipment * Knowledge of overall hotel operations as they affect department * Knowledge of governmental regulations and safety standards (OSHA, EPA, ADA, NFPA) * Working knowledge of hotel laws governing operations * Strategic planning skills * Ability to creatively execute and drive results; encourages new innovative solutions when appropriate * Ability to influence others * Ability to develop and maintain relationships e.g., associates, customers, vendors * Strong presentation and platform skills * Strong negotiation skills & organizational skills * Strong communication skills (verbal, listening, writing) * Strong customer and associate relation skills * Knowledge of overall hotel operations as they affect department * Ability to use standard software applications and hotel systems including Lanyon, MarRFP, CI/TY, Hotelligence 360, MARSHA, Light Speed, etc. * Knowledge of the next step taken when we experience declining market shares or increasing competition Sales and Revenue Management * Works collaboratively with off-property sales channels (e.g., Global Sales Offices, Market Sales, National Sales, Strategic Accounts) to ensure sales efforts are coordinated, complementary and not duplicative. * Responds to incoming local & national transient accounts and opportunities for the hotel. * Proactively identifies, qualifies and solicits new business to achieve personal and hotel revenue goals. * Targets local & national transient accounts and Airline opportunities, markets or segments with heavy emphasis on proactive solicitation and account saturation. * Handles complex business with significant revenue potential as well as significant customer expectations. * Develops contracts and correspondence, manages opportunity details and proactively develop customer solutions * Works independently or centrally, depending on account, with corporate business travel segments to establish appropriate business transient pricing for assigned accounts * Utilizes sales organization resources as needed in account saturation * Manages relationships with multiple contacts in assigned market accounts * Effectively manages, develops and communicates with key internal and external stakeholders * Develops effective and creative strategy for account penetration * Design and develop effective plans and actions, implement them and change or adjust as the business warrants. * Maximizes revenue by up-selling with packages and creative food and beverage. * Understands the overall market - competitors' strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand etc. and knows how to sell against them. * Closes the best opportunities for the hotel based on market conditions and hotel needs. * Uses negotiating skills and creative selling abilities to close on business and negotiate Effectively manages customer's budgets to maximize revenue and customer needs. * Negotiates services of hotel and executes local Business Transient Sales Agreement for each business opportunity * Partners with Convention Services, Front Office, F& B Operations in providing a customer experience that exceeds the customer's expectations. * Acts as our customer liaison with hotel during customer event/program ensuring daily needs are met and overall customer satisfaction. * Builds and strengthens relationships with existing and new customers to enable future bookings. Activities include sales calls, entertainment, FAM trips, trade shows, etc. * Effectively develops relationships within community to strengthen and expand customer base for group/catering sales opportunities. * Utilizes Marriott as a resource for information regarding (Training, Marriott or Westin updates, segment websites, etc.). * Monitors same day selling procedures to maximize room revenue and control hotel occupancy. * Effectively use sales resources and administrative/support staff. * Conducts site inspections. Customer Service * Gains understanding of the hotel's primary target customer and service expectations; serves customer by understanding their business, business issues and concerns, to offer better business solutions both prior to and during the program/event. * Serves the customer by understanding their needs and recommending the appropriate features and services that best meet their needs and exceed their expectations, while building a continuing relationship and loyalty to Marriott. * Support Marriott's Service and Relationship Strategy by planning and contracting the customer's program/project/event, managing the success of the program/project/event and measuring our service effectiveness through ESS & GSS. * Attends and participates in the daily stand-up meetings where we discuss the daily renewal. * Executes exemplary customer service to drive customer satisfaction, loyalty by assisting the customer and ensuring their satisfaction before and during their program/event. Guest Satisfaction * Sets a positive example for guest relations. * Provides accurate, complete and effective turnover to event management. * Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels; effectively responds to and handles guest problems and complaints. * Attends departmental meetings throughout the hotel to ensure team members are familiar with active promotions, aware of the current company of the month and to answer any questions the team might have or obtain feedback relating to business transient business to improve our service levels and overall satisfaction. * Observes service behaviors of associates and provides feedback to individuals and/or managers; continuously strives to improve service performance. * Reviews meeting planner survey's, guest experience index reports and guest comments to understand level of guest satisfaction; continuously strives to improve service performance. * Continuously focused on improving guest satisfaction to create loyalty and increase market share. * Empowered to guarantee total guest satisfaction, display hospitality and professionalism to our guests at all times, take pride in representing Marriott and Auro Hotels. Other * Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs. * Participate in departmental sales and staff meetings; be prepared with the appropriate paperwork. * Participates in daily stand-up meetings and models desired service behaviors in all interactions with guests and team members. * Adhere to the Lobby Ambassador program. * Achieve monthly departmental revenue goals as outlined in the review criteria and/or bonus program. * Assist with the supervising the sales coordinator, monitor the work output, offer suggestions to increase productivity and share best practices. * Ensure timely and accurate distribution of information to all affected departments.
