Inside Sales Representative - Lumber & Building Materials Position Summary: The Inside Sales Representative is responsible for supporting contractors, builders, and retail customers with product selection, quoting, and order management. This role requires strong product knowledge in lumber and building materials, excellent communication skills, and the ability to deliver accurate, timely service in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Sales & Customer Service * Assist walk-in, phone-in, and email customers with product information, pricing, and availability. * Generate accurate quotes and follow up to convert them into sales. * Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, builders, and commercial accounts. * Recommend alternative products or solutions based on customer needs and inventory levels. Order Management * Enter sales orders, special orders, and backorders into the POS system. * Coordinate with yard staff, delivery drivers, and vendors to ensure smooth order fulfillment. * Monitor open orders and communicate updates or delays to customers proactively. * Handle returns, credits, and warranty inquiries. Product Knowledge & Merchandising * Maintain knowledge of dimensional lumber, panels, engineered wood, treated products, roofing, siding, hardware, and other building materials. * Stay updated on industry trends, product changes, and vendor programs. * Support merchandising efforts to ensure the sales counter and displays are clean and stocked. Collaboration * Work closely with outside sales reps to support their accounts and provide in-office backup. * Coordinate with purchasing on special orders, stock levels, and pricing updates. * Assist management with forecasting customer demand and identifying sales opportunities. Qualifications: Required * Experience in the lumber, building materials, or construction industry. * Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate clearly. * Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and basic computer applications. Preferred * Previous inside sales experience in a lumber yard or building supply company. * Familiarity with decking, fencing, and exterior products. * Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
