Full description of the position
The Large Truck Sales Manager for Municipal Accounts is responsible for leading and executing sales strategies focused on selling heavy-duty trucks and fleet solutions to city, county, and state municipalities. This role manages the full sales cycle--from prospecting and relationship development to proposal creation, bid responses, contract negotiation, and long-term account management. The manager ensures compliance with public-sector procurement processes and works closely with internal teams to deliver reliable, cost- effective truck solutions that meet municipal operational requirements. Key Responsibilities Sales & Business Development * Develop and execute strategic sales plans to grow municipal fleet sales within assigned regions. * Identify new municipal opportunities through research, networking, RFP monitoring, and outreach. * Lead the preparation and submission of bids, RFQs, RFPs, and government procurement documentation. * Present product solutions, demonstrations, and specifications to municipal decision makers. * Achieve or exceed quarterly and annual sales targets. Client Relationship Management * Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal fleet managers, public works officials, procurement officers, and elected officials. * Serve as a trusted advisor, understanding client needs related to fleet operations, budgets, compliance, and lifecycle planning. * Provide ongoing support post-sale, ensuring high customer satisfaction and repeat business. Product & Industry Expertise * Maintain expert knowledge of heavy-duty truck models, chassis, powertrains, upfitting options, and municipal equipment. * Understand municipal purchasing regulations and industry standards (e.g., state procurement laws, cooperative purchasing, grant funding). * Stay current with trends in fleet electrification, emissions compliance, safety technology, and total cost of ownership. Team Leadership & Collaboration * Lead or support a sales team focused on municipal markets; coach and mentor sales representatives as needed. * Collaborate with engineering, service, parts, and upfitter partners to design custom truck solutions. * Coordinate with marketing on municipal-focused campaigns, trade shows, and industry events. Operational & Administrative Duties * Manage the proposal pipeline and maintain accurate CRM records. * Analyze competitive trends, pricing strategies, and market conditions to support business planning. * Ensure all contracts, bids, and sales documentation meet compliance and audit standards. * Oversee delivery timelines and ensure coordination between production, logistics, and the customer. Qualifications Required * 5+ years of sales experience, preferably in heavy-duty trucks, vocational vehicles, fleet equipment, or related industries. * Strong knowledge of municipal procurement processes (RFPs, bids, cooperative purchasing, etc.). * Proven track record in B2G or fleet sales. * Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. * Ability to travel within assigned territory. Preferred * Experience managing a sales team. * Technical knowledge of truck specifications, hydraulics, upfitting, or vocational equipment. * Familiarity with fleet management software and CRM platforms. * Understanding of EV truck platforms and alternative fuel technologies.
