Sales Associate - Kkua General Store Title: Sales Associate Location: Haleiwa, Hawaii Reports to: Kkua General Store Manager and/or Social Enterprise Director To Apply: Send a cover letter and resume including three references, with details about your availability to work to [please apply online] About the Organization : Kkua Hawaii Foundation (KHF) is a 501(c)3 non- profit organization founded in 2003 that supports environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaii. KHF's mission is to provide opportunities that will enhance one's appreciation for and understanding of the environment so that they will be lifelong stewards of the earth. Since 2019, KHF has cared for 8 acres of land in the heart of Haleiwa establishing agricultural, educational, and retail activities that benefit the community and promote local food, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship. The property encompasses three mission-aligned businesses (Kkua General Store, Kkua Vintage, INA Farm Stand), the Kkua Community Center, the Kkua Learning Farm, and KHF support offices. Position: The Sales Associate will support Kkua General Store customer experience, retail operations, and marketing. The ideal candidate has a passion for retail and KHF's environmental impact mission. They are a friendly, knowledgeable and engaging resource to customers, partners, and vendors, supporting low-waste lifestyles and sustainable local food systems in Hawaii. Roles and Responsibilities: * People, Culture, and Mission * Communicate effectively with KHF staff, volunteers, supporters, and the public. * Model mission-driven brand promises related to environmental stewardship, local food, and a low-waste lifestyle. * Welcome customers and create a meaningful shopping experience integrating low-waste lifestyle products, second-hand items, local food, and KHF's mission. * Understand social enterprise sourcing, products and specials, as well as non-profit programs and impact, and communicate information persuasively to customers and participants. * Champion local and sustainable artisans, makers, food producers, and business owners. * Find ways to connect with customers, using interpersonal skills to give them a positive shopping and learning experience. * Customer Experience and Sales * Work the storefront and oversee the daily operations, cleanliness, safety, stocking, sales and customer service execution of the retail storefronts. Build relationships with customers and inform each individual with the storefront's mission alignment to KHF and its programs. * Use POS systems to process payments. * Create a meaningful and inclusive shopping experience integrating low-waste lifestyle products, second-hand items, local food, and KHF's mission. * Build life-long brand relationships with customers. * Engage and encourage customers to become paid Kkua Hawaii Foundation Members and volunteers. Process membership sales, benefits, and other promotions accurately and according to KHF and store policy and procedures. * Find items for customers and upsell new items through education on daily waste reduction solutions and local food offerings. * Manage customer relations, and elevate complaints to management as needed. * Business Operations * Execute the daily operations, cleanliness, safety, stocking, sales and customer service of the retail storefront. * Maintain a safe, clean and organized storefront that aligns with KHF's image. * Inspect the storefronts and report all issues that arise. * Follow all legal, health, and safety guidelines. * Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Social Enterprise policies, technology, training, and operations * Carry out other store administrative tasks as directed by supervisor and others in KHF management. * Inventory Management and Merchandising * Ensure products are properly displayed before the store opens. * Organize merchandise and store displays. Restock and tidy as needed. * Keep the storeroom organized and tidy. * Perform routine inventory counts and submit reports to the Social Enterprise Director and/or Store Manager. * Ensure that items are priced and labeled correctly. * Assist in unpacking, distribution of items between KHF programs and social enterprises, stocking, and organizing of the stockroom. * Event Coordination and Marketing * Assist Social Enterprise Director, Store Manager, and Communications and Outreach Director in generating content for social media as needed. * Promote events, social media, and newsletters to customers to increase engagement with our various platforms in line with KHF values. * Support a wide variety of Kkua General Store and INA Farm Stand events and vendor pop-ups. Desired Traits, Skills, and Experience * Experience and passion in sustainability - especially in plastic pollution issues/solutions, waste reduction, second-hand/vintage goods, and local food and farming * 1+ years of Hawaii based work or volunteer experience * Bulk refill, local food, and/or consignment product knowledge * Ability to educate customers about a low-waste lifestyle and sustainable local food systems * Retail experience with a friendly and approachable demeanor * Able to coordinate and build a positive relationship with staff members, volunteers, and vendors * Strong oral and written communication skills, including comfort with public speaking and creating content and messaging via social media * Able to work independently and in a team * Highly organized * Strong math skills * Well-versed in Apple, Google Workspace, POS systems (e.g. Shopify) * Attention to detail, including in inventory, displays, and financial transactions * Punctuality and accountability daily when arriving to work, closing out point-of-sale (POS) system, and running reports * Experience and passion in developing and maintaining business relationships To Apply: Send a cover letter and resume including three references, with details about your availability to work to . Pay starts at $17.00-$20.00 per hour, depending on skills, experience, and education. Employees receive 20% off Kkua General Store bulk refill and low- waste lifestyle items and 50% off Kkua Hawaii Foundation merchandise. Employees also receive discounts in the INA Farm Stand, 50% off Kkua merchandise, 20% off cafe and prepared food items, and 10% off grocery. Medical benefits are included for long-term employees working an average of over 20 hours/week.
