Full description of the position

The Company: Our client is part of one of the world's leaders in customized solutions in the specialty steel long products business. They operate across 30 countries and five continents and truly has a global reach. The company operates long products specialty steel processing centers in Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey, California along with a processing center in Mississauga, Ontario outside Toronto, Canada. In addition to service centers, they also in-house metallurgical laboratory capabilities. The company is known for its tool steels, stainless steels, acid- and heat- resistant steels, high grade structural steels, bright steel and special products such as various alloys and metal powders. Processing activities include stainless coil to bar drawing, bar line marking, vacuum heat treatment and tempering, custom saw cutting, plate grinding and machining (horizontal and vertical block squaring, chamfering and hole drilling). The Position: The District Sales Manager (DSM) is responsible for overseeing sales operations of tool steels as well as die steels, mold steels and custom forgings within an assigned district. The DSM will develop and execute strategic sales plans and work closely with both internal departments and external customers to ensure revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and market share expansion. The DSM will be responsible for generating new business, managing existing customer relationships, and driving revenue growth. This role requires in-depth knowledge of our products, the ability to build strong customer relationships, and a keen understanding of the manufacturing industry. The District Sales Manager will oversee and engage in business decisions that are aligned with the company handbook and corporate policy manual. Location: The District Sales Manager should live in an area in northern Ohio or Pittsburgh, PA. The core sales territory is concentrated in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Other states in the territory include West Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine. Reporting Structure: Report as necessary to the VP of Sales on the following: - Overall market conditions, activities, trends, and competition actions - Monthly - Quote feedback - Daily - Planned customer visits - Weekly - Customer visit reports - Weekly - Territory YOY analysis report - Quarterly - Positive actions, success stories or milestone achievements - Monthly Responsibilities: Specifically, these responsibilities include: Lead Generation & Prospecting. - Identify potential customers and industries that could benefit from the company's products. - Use various tools (CRM, industry databases, networking events) to generate new business leads. - Cold-call or meet with prospective clients to showcase products. - Develop and implement a strategic sales plan to meet company goals. - Collaborate with the marketing and product teams to align sales strategies with the company's overall direction. - Track market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity to stay ahead. - Conduct regular client meetings to assess needs, provide product updates, and address any concerns or opportunities for further engagement. - Build and maintain strong relationships with current and potential clients. - Provide technical support, product presentations, and pricing details to clients. - Handle customer inquiries, objections, and complaints professionally. - Prepare and deliver quotations, negotiate terms, and close sales. - Ensure that contracts are signed and necessary paperwork is completed efficiently. - Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly sales targets. - Work closely with the operations and customer service teams to ensure timely delivery and after sales support. - Provide feedback to the production team regarding customer preferences or issues. - Maintain regular follow-up with customers to ensure satisfaction and identify opportunities for upselling. - Maintain accurate records of all sales activities in the CRM system. - Provide regular sales forecasts and performance reports to management. - Analyze sales data to identify growth opportunities and optimize sales processes. - Work closely with product development, marketing, and operations teams to ensure customer requirements are met and products are delivered on time. - Coordinate with finance on pricing, credit terms, and contract negotiations. - Participate in and support special projects as defined. Qualifications: We are seeking a professional with the following attributes and qualifications: - Proven experience as a Sales Representative in manufacturing or a related industry. - Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and driving team performance. - Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. - Proficient in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant sales tools. - Willingness to travel within the district as required. - Strategic thinking and problem-solving. - Customer-focused with a deep understanding of market dynamics. - Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, target-driven environment. - Strong organizational and time management skills. Education, Skills and Experience - At least a four-year college degree in either business or economics is preferred. - In place of those majors, a college degree plus 10 years of successful sales and sales territory management experience is required.
