Job description About KCG KCG is a commercial and Industrial HVAC servicing company with over 34 years of experience and a longstanding reputation for quality service and competitive rates. We provide comprehensive Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration and Energy Management Service with proficiency in installation, maintenance and service. We service all types of Commercial and Industrial properties: * Office Buildings * Schools * Refrigerated Warehouses * Supermarkets * Pharmaceutical Labs * Computer Room Facilities * Chain Stores * Banks * Restaurants * Nursing Homes We Also Service and Sell: * Boilers * Chillers * Rooftop Units * Thru-the-Wall units * Controls * Processed Piping * Walk-In Coolers Job summary Lead estimator & sales point of contact for the company. Quotes will be required for repairs, maintenance, and installations across a large and diversified commercial client base. This role includes reviewing technician created quotes, conducting site visits, creating repair, replacement and new equipment bids. This role will require attending bid meetings, ensuring bid timelines are adhered to and completed bids are submitted. Coordination will be required with clients, utilities, and various partners. This role reports directly to the President and owner of the business and will be a key partner in the growth and profitability of the business. Essential functions Essential Functions: Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Review technician service / repair quotes * Assist technicians in creating complex repair quotes * Creating quotes to replace existing units or add new capacity to a facility. We do not do new construction. * Manage bid process for the company for private sector, municipal and federal bids * Coordinate with utilities for eligible transactions (e.g., Small Business Direct Install) * Coordinate submission of permits and ordering of equipment with appropriate teammates. * Manage and sustain company pipeline, including, regular reporting to ownership. * Regularly conduct job profitability analysis and reporting on large quotes. * Collaborate with the owner on developing and implementing growth measures to increase sales volume of the company Qualifications Experience: 8+ years of experience in the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration trade with an equivalent of completion of the twelfth grade, or 5+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree. Licenses/Certificates: * Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license by time of appointment. * Current HVAC certification from an accredited institution or engineering degree. * NJ Master HVAC License (Preferred) Knowledge of: * Standard theory, principles, practices, methods and tools of commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems, including rooftop units, chillers, boilers, VRF/VRV, split systems, cooling towers, and refrigeration equipment. * Mechanical codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, IMC, NEC, IIAR, local NJ code). * Plan reading & construction documents, including mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, P&IDs, and specifications. * Load calculations and system sizing for heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems. * Design-build estimating principles and lifecycle cost analysis. * Commercial controls and BAS systems (DDC, BACnet, Modbus, VFD integration). * Refrigeration processes, including medium/low temp, walk-in systems, rack systems, and CO systems. * Ductwork and piping design, materials, and fabrication methods. * Energy efficiency technologies and utility incentive structures. * Project management workflows, submittal processes, and construction sequencing. * Vendor/supplier capabilities and cost structures for HVAC/R equipment and materials. * Safety standards and OSHA requirements for mechanical work. Skilled in: * Developing detailed and accurate estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and contingencies. * Interpreting and analyzing construction drawings and specifications for scope clarity and conflicts. * Performing site surveys to validate conditions, dimensions, system layouts, and installation constraints. * Building competitive bids and proposals, including value-engineering alternatives. * Communicating technical information clearly to clients, engineers, and project teams. * Coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and engineers to refine scope and pricing. * Identifying risks and gaps in plans, scope, and bid documents. * Cost modeling & forecasting for complex mechanical systems. * Negotiating pricing with vendors and subcontractors. * Creating complete project handoff packages for operations and project management. * Managing deadlines and multiple simultaneous estimates in fast-paced environments. Working conditions Environmental Conditions: The lead estimator primarily works in office conditions; however, will occasionally work in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and on slippery and uneven surfaces while quoting. The employee will occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Physical Conditions: Essential and marginal functions are typically minimal but may require physical fitness requirements necessary to perform the job functions with or without accommodation, such as the ability to stand, walk or sit for prolonged periods; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; work at heights of up to 50 feet.
