Job Summary We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented NFPA Fire Inspector a for a public works project with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The inspector will be responsible for verifying compliance with applicable NFPA standards, California Fire Code, and local AHJ requirements at utility and infrastructure facilities. This is a short-term W-2 position subject to California prevailing wage requirements. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of fire protection systems, ensuring adherence to NFPA standards, and providing expert recommendations for fire safety improvements. This role requires a strong understanding of security protocols, system design, construction inspection, and fire alarm systems. The NFPA Fire Inspector plays a critical role in safeguarding facilities by evaluating fire prevention measures, inspecting fire sprinkler fitting installations, and supporting fire alarm system compliance. Responsibilities * Conduct comprehensive inspections of fire protection systems including fire sprinklers, alarms, and alarm systems sales to verify compliance with NFPA codes and local regulations * Evaluate construction projects for adherence to fire safety standards during different phases of construction inspection * Assess security measures and system design implementations to identify potential vulnerabilities or non-compliance issues * Inspect fire sprinkler fitting installations to ensure proper installation, function, and maintenance * Review plans and specifications related to fire alarm systems and provide recommendations for improvements or upgrades * Document inspection findings accurately and prepare detailed reports for clients and regulatory agencies * Collaborate with construction teams, contractors, and clients to address deficiencies and ensure timely resolution of safety concerns * Stay current with evolving NFPA standards, fire safety regulations, and industry best practices through ongoing professional development Experience * Proven experience in security system design, construction inspection, or fire protection systems is highly desirable * Hands-on knowledge of fire alarm systems, including installation, maintenance, and sales of alarm systems * Experience with fire sprinkler fitting and related plumbing or piping work is preferred * Familiarity with construction processes related to fire safety compliance is advantageous * Prior roles involving system design or construction inspection will be considered a strong asset * Certification or training related to NFPA standards * ICC Fire Inspector I or II * OR * NICET Level II or higher (Fire Alarm, Fire Sprinkler, or Fire Protection Engineering Technology) * Demonstrated experience inspecting systems governed by NFPA standards * Familiarity with California Fire Code and Los Angeles-area AHJ processes * Ability to prepare clear inspection reports * OSHA 10 or 30 (Construction or General Industry) preferred * Ability to pass LADWP badging and background requirements Preferred Experience * Prior work on public works or utility projects * Experience at electrical substations, power plants, or industrial facilities * Experience working under prevailing wage projects Pay: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour Benefits: * Dental insurance * Health insurance * Vision insurance Work Location: In person
