For over 175 years the Buffalo Diocesan Council has been serving people in need in seven of the eight counties in the diocese and is now the oldest continuously operating charity in Western New York. Headquartered in a building at 1298 Main St., Buffalo, the diocesan Council is an independent charity, which serves nearly 100,000 residents of our community each year. As part of this, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul operates through our discount store, dining room and home visit services which provide food, services, and supplies to those in need, all with the mission to ease the suffering of our fellow human beings. We are currently seeking Store Associate for our Vincent 's Discount Store operation. Vincent 's Discount Store is the only remaining department store on Main Street within the City of Buffalo. It is a full range department store where satisfied shoppers go for brand-new bedding, new and used appliances, furniture, clothing, print and digital media, household goods, and more. Open six days a week, we welcome shoppers from the general public as well as friends who come to our volunteers for a little extra help. Individuals working in the role will be responsible to: * Provide excellent customer service * Greeting customers and building rapport through conversation, honest recommendations, and service * Advise customers concerning particular products or services. * Upsell to customers through recommendations. * Ringing up sales and arranging for delivery or pick-up of the customer's order if needed * Find and retrieve store merchandise. * Provide and operate a welcoming, clean, efficient, and safe store environment * Assisting in maintaining the back stock room and setting up merchandise displays on the sales floor * Collaborating with fellow team members to keep the sales floor area clean and organized at all times * Organize merchandise on shelves and restock them when they become empty. * Perform routine inventory counts and submit reports to the Store Manager. * Price items * Carry out other store administrative tasks as directed by the Store Manager or assistant store manager. This position is part time, Monday through Saturday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Qualified candidates will have the following: * High school diploma or the equivalent * Retail experience and/or training required * Experience working cash registers * Experience in customer service * Experienced with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook * Knowledge of POS systems * Thrift store experience a plus If you are interested in working for an organization that makes a direct impact in your community, we encourage you to apply!
