Full description of the position

The Holiday Inn Birmingham-Hoover, an IHG Hotel is seeking a motivated, self-starter to join our team as a Director of Sales. The right candidate must have knowledge of the hotel industry with strong negotiation skills to achieve sales goals, maximize room revenue, and acquire new accounts. This key position will uncover and manage new corporate, group, event and catering business, in tandem with maintaining the existing customer base while embracing IHG and hotel standards. Every day is different in the hotel world, but mostly you will be: * Soliciting and securing new potential corporate and group accounts * Building new relationships in the community and surrounding areas * Responding to sales leads, negotiating and generating contracts * Servicing accounts and analyzing lost business for the hotel * Soliciting catering and meeting business to compliment our sales objectives * Performing administrative tasks in association with building and maintaining sales files, group blocks, rooming lists, Banquet Event Orders, contracts, and other agreements, documents, and systems * Participating in weekly revenue, marketing and corporate strategy calls * Maintaining a calendar to follow up on proposals, contracts, and meetings * Creating group, event, and catering proposals while taking the customer's vision and hotel's budget into account * Developing and deploying business & leisure transient, group and catering action plans for securing/growing revenues * Completing and maintaining client information for all sales activities within the property sales system and send weekly reports to hotel's General Manager and Corporate Directors of Operations and Sales * Conducting weekly BEO meetings with hotel staff to ensure accurate and successful execution of events * Ensuring event details are established timely and communicated with appropriate hotel staff * Confirming event and group details with the customer, execute all contractual obligations, and ensure all payments are received in a accordance to hotel requirements * Participating in rooms and catering budget creation with General Manager. * Training front desk employees on proper protocol for handling sales leads, incoming calls, and referrals * Maintaining a good rapport with area Chamber of commerce and other local civic groups and companies What we need from you: * Bachelor's Degree is preferred * Hotel sales experience is required, IHG or other major brand preferred * Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal * Must have excellent computer skills and be able to use all Microsoft applications as well as web based calendars and email * Opera PMS experience preferred * STS or Delphi sales system experience preferred * You must be able to read and interpret business records and statistical reports. * Use mathematical skills to interpret financial information * Analyze and interpret established policies * Deal with the general public, customers and employees with tact and courtesy * Change activity frequently and cope with interruptions * Make business decisions based on production reports, similar facts, as well as on our own experience and personal opinions * Participate in discussions and debates and "agree to disagree" at times * Dress professionally * Must be able to drive and make outside sales calls at least 25% of work week.
