Director of Pre-Construction (Estimating & Sales) Zimmerman Building Company | Fremont, OH | Full-Time Zimmerman Building Company, a third-generation, family-owned construction firm, is looking for a strategic and proactive Director of Pre- Construction to lead our Estimating and Sales team. This role oversees the entire front-end of the construction process--before a shovel hits the ground. We specialize in residential new builds, renovations, excavation, and commercial construction projects. As we grow, we're seeking a high-level leader who can help us win the right projects and set them up for success-- freeing our owner to focus more on vision and company growth. What You'll Do * Lead and manage the Pre-Construction department, including Estimators and Sales staff. * Own the estimating and bidding strategy across residential and commercial projects. * Streamline systems for proposal generation, client onboarding, and sales pipeline management. * Drive process improvement, accuracy, and client experience from first inquiry through signed contract. * Collaborate with project managers and field staff to ensure a seamless handoff and project setup. * Mentor and support team members in both technical and interpersonal development. For example, if a key subcontractor falls through, you don't freeze--you immediately start finding alternatives and updating the estimate. * Naturally innovative and adaptable: When a client has an unusual request or a project shifts midstream, you can rework the proposal and process without missing a beat. You help your team adjust and move forward with confidence. * Strong leader, even without construction background: You don't need to be swinging a hammer to lead this department. You bring clarity, organization, and motivation to the estimators and sales staff, helping them hit goals and improve systems. * Juggles multiple priorities with ease: You might be reviewing an estimate, prepping a sales meeting, and following up on a bid--all before lunch. You keep things moving, delegate well, and don't let things slip through the cracks. * Clear, confident communicator: You know how to bring clarity to complex information--whether you're presenting a proposal to a homeowner, working through numbers with the estimating team, or updating leadership on progress. Preferred but Not Required * Background in construction, engineering, or architecture. * Familiarity with construction estimating software, take-offs, and subcontractor management. You Might Come From * A senior sales or operations role in a project-based or service business. * A background in engineering, architecture, or construction management. * A fast-paced leadership role in a startup or entrepreneurial environment.
