POSTION TITLE: Business Development Lead for Heavy Timber - Western States LOCATION: Western States (Portland, OR or remote) ABOUT US New Energy Works is a national leader in the design and craft of custom heavy timber buildings and mass timber structures. From concept to completion, we work closely with clients, developers, and builders to bring unique, high- quality wood structures to life. With workshops in Oregon and New York, we bring deep expertise, craftsmanship, and a passion for building with wood to every project. POSITION OVERVIEW We're seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Lead to focus on expanding our presence across the Pacific Coastal region. This role blends relationship-building, design insight, and strategic outreach. The ideal candidate will have existing connections in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industries and the ability to expand into new markets aligned with our mission of building better. Your primary focus will be cultivating relationships and generating project opportunities for commercial mass timber projects and custom residential timber homes. You'll work closely with prospective clients, architects, and developers, helping them understand how New Energy Works can support their vision from early design through fabrication and installation. Key Responsibilities * Develop and maintain strong B2B relationships with developers, architects and builders primarily in the West Coast and Rocky Mountain States. * Identify and pursue new opportunities in both the commercial mass timber markets and residential custom trade. * Guide clients through early-stage conversations, offering architectural insight and introducing them to our heavy timber structures and mass timber capabilities. * Represent New Energy Works at regional industry events, trade shows, conferences, and client meetings. * Present at trade shows, deliver lunch-and-learns, and lead educational outreach on heavy timber structures and our high-performance enclosure systems. * Act as a service-based educator and brand representative--teaching, not just selling--while building trust and lasting partnerships. * Take the lead on prospecting and cold outreach to developers, architects and builders to open doors and initiate relationships. * Manage accounts from introduction through handoff, functioning as the account lead and primary point of contact in early stages. * Regularly travel throughout the Western States to meet prospects, generate leads, and maintain strong regional visibility. * Work closely with our internal design, engineering, and fabrication teams to align sales efforts with project goals. * Maintain a robust pipeline of leads and report regularly on business development activities using CRM tools. * Collaborate with marketing to tailor messaging and materials to target audiences and markets in the Western States. * Bring a no-BS, problem-solving mindset to every interaction--helping partners navigate challenges and identify project opportunities. * Create introductions between New Energy Works and new businesses, developers, and architects. * Consistently generate and qualify opportunities to pass along to our internal sales and project design teams. QUALIFICATIONS * 5-10 years of experience in construction, business development, manufacturing, or architecture--preferably in commercial or custom residential construction. * Strong understanding of heavy timber or mass timber building systems. * A professional network within the Western US residential or commercial architecture / construction community. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a consultative sales approach. * Proven ability to manage and close B2B sales opportunities. * Self-starter with the ability to work independently while collaborating closely across teams. WHY US? * Be part of a nationally respected team known for our commitment to quality, creativity, and craftsmanship. * Help shape the built environment with iconic timber structures that stand the test of time. * Work in a flexible, collaborative environment with the support of skilled design and build teams. * Be an employee owner. * Competitive salary plus commission and generous benefits package.
