Job Purpose: This is a unique opportunity to lead and shape the Federal Program at a dynamic and rapidly growing company. As the Director of Federal, you will play a pivotal role in crafting and executing strategies that drive innovation, expand market presence, and strengthen relationships across key Federal agencies and partners. This role offers the chance to make a lasting impact by steering the company's Federal business growth and fostering high-level strategic partnerships. You will lead the development of a comprehensive Federal market strategy, with a strong focus on identifying and capturing top contract opportunities. A central aspect of this role includes growing and leading mentor-protege relationships, as well as identifying and fostering strategic Federal partnerships, joint ventures, and collaborations with key players in the market. Your leadership will directly contribute to positioning the company as a premier partner within the Federal sector, ensuring its success in both existing and emerging markets. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Architecture, Engineering or a related field. 10+ years of progressive experience in Federal business development, preferably within the A/E/C industry. Skills/Qualities: Advanced strategic planning and execution skills, with a proven ability to develop and implement effective sales strategies that drive revenue growth, enhance market presence, and chart new markets (e.g., SDVOSB to unrestricted large business transitions). Deep understanding of federal contracting processes, including FAR regulations and contract types (IDIQ, MAC, DBB). Strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship management skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and manage teams to achieve top performance. Proficiency in CRM tools and leveraging data analysis and performance metrics to guide decision-making and optimize outcomes. Strong relationship-building skills with federal clients, teaming partners, and market influencers. Persistent and consistent in follow- through on business development activities. Professional demeanor that enables effective interaction with senior leaders inside and outside the firm. Preference for candidates with technical or federal employment experience or a history of growing a small business into a successful federal competitor. Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership (30%) Develop a 5-year strategic plan with clear, actionable milestones. Strategic plan will be updated annually. Develop and execute comprehensive Federal sales strategies that align with the firm's overarching business objectives, focusing on maximizing client acquisition and enhancing the firm's competitive edge. Lead the organization's Federal sales efforts fostering a collaborative environment where sales goals are pursued collectively. Identify and foster strategic Federal partnerships, including mentor-protege relationships, joint ventures, and collaborations with key market players. Chart the events/organizations Guidon should engage with and ensure representation at relevant conferences and events through attendance or delegation. Develop role specific KPIs that align with the overarching metrics established by the VP of Sales/Marketing. Continuously monitor and analyze sales performance data to gauge the effectiveness of business development strategies and adjust tactics accordingly. Business Development & Capture Strategy (60%) Represent the firm at the highest levels with clients, peer organizations, and industry groups, ensuring strategic visibility and influence. Build and maintain robust relationships with federal clients, teaming partners, and influencers within the federal contracting market. Lead client acquisition efforts associated with the Federal strategic plan, with a focus on USACE, NAVFAC, and a secondary focus on VA and other federal agencies, . Lead the development of capture plans for top-priority federal contracts and opportunities, focusing on high-value clients and markets. Oversee the strategy for proposal development in collaboration with the marketing team, including key messaging, teaming arrangements, and aligning with BD activities. Hold ultimate responsibility for strategic Federal go/no-go decisions, influencing key business and strategic decisions. Participate in go/no-go decision meetings, aligning them with strategic goals. Drive accountability for CRM activities across the Federal market, ensuring data-driven decision-making and team alignment. Mentorship & Collaboration (10%) Foster a collaborative culture of continuous improvement and success in federal business development activities. Collaborate with discipline leaders to align federal project requirements with internal capabilities, ensuring team readiness for high-quality project delivery. Act as a resource for cross- functional teams, providing expertise in Federal contracting processes and standards. Utilize strong leadership and influence skills to guide and support individuals with sales responsibilities. Promote a culture of collaboration and shared success across different functions of the firm. Mentor and guide members of the sales council, fostering professional growth and operational excellence. Create and implement robust training to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of those involved in Federal sales and business development activities. Lead initiatives to promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team. Performance Expectations: Report directly to the VP of Sales/Marketing, maintaining authority and autonomy to make critical business development decisions. Ensure strategic alignment with the firm's goals and the marketing strategies developed by the Marketing Director. Develop and monitor specific KPIs, such as client acquisition rates, CRM adoption and activity rates, strategic go/no-go decision effectiveness, profitability and sales volume growth. Represent the firm and build its reputation by attending and participating in key industry events and conferences. Report regularly on progress, challenges, and results to the Vice President of Sales/Marketing, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Bi-weekly L10 Meetings: Participate in bi-weekly L10 meetings with the VP of Sales/Marketing and Marketing Director to discuss strategic alignment, cross-functional issues, and opportunities for collaboration. Use these meetings to present and refine strategic business development initiatives. Evaluation Metrics: Guidon has established four Core Behaviors that all Team Members are expected to uphold.
