We work with startups, research institutions, and forward-thinking companies that are developing groundbreaking products--and we exist to ensure their technical success About the Role: We are seeking a motivated, analytical, and resourceful Business Development Representative (BD Rep) to join our growing team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys research, data analysis, and identifying new business opportunities in cutting-edge industries. You will play a critical role in generating and nurturing early-stage leads, ensuring Johnston Engineering connects with the right companies at the right time. This role is focused on the Suspect and Prospect stages of our lead pipeline, meaning you'll be responsible for identifying potential clients and initiating outreach. Once a meaningful conversation about a potential project begins, you'll hand off the lead to the Business Development Manager. Key Responsibilities: Lead _ Identification & Research (Suspecting)_ * Research and identify companies that could benefit from Johnston Engineering's expertise based on industry fit, funding raised, R&D stage, and company size. * Maintain and update our CRM system with company details, outreach efforts, and relevant industry insights. * Stay up to date on industry trends, funding rounds, and new startups in relevant sectors. Prospecting & Outreach * Conduct outreach via email, LinkedIn, and other platforms to introduce Johnston Engineering and generate interest. * Customize outreach messaging based on research to improve engagement. * Track responses and interactions to optimize outreach strategies. * Coordinate follow-ups and handoffs to the BD Manager when a lead becomes interested in discussing a project. Sales Support & Meeting Preparation * Prepare meeting briefs with background information on potential clients, their challenges, and how Johnston Engineering can help. * Assist in developing outreach campaigns and refining prospecting strategies. * Organize CRM data and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to inform business development strategies. What We 're Looking For * Strong research and analytical skills - you enjoy digging into data and identifying trends. * Detail-oriented and organized - keeping track of dozens of potential clients is second nature to you. * Strong written and verbal communication skills - you can craft compelling emails and hold a professional conversation. * Self-motivated and driven - you take initiative and work independently to achieve goals. * Interest in innovative technology, engineering, or product development is a plus. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Data Analytics, Engineering, or related fields. * Experience with CRM tools (such as [please apply online] Salesforce, or HubSpot) is a plus. * Prior experience in sales research, business development, or market analysis is preferred but not required. Job Type: Full-time. Schedule: * 9-hour days, Monday - Friday, with every other Friday off * We work a hybrid "9/80 schedule": 9-hour day schedule on a two 2-week cycle. Monday - Thursday are 9-hour days with Friday being an 8-hour day. Then the following Friday is an "off Friday" for an additional 26 non-working days per year.
