Full description of the position
Job Overview: We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Sales Manager to lead our sales department as an active "playing manager." This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on customer engagement--ideal for someone who thrives both in the field and in developing high-performing teams. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of increasing market share, managing multiple retail and wholesale accounts, and driving revenue growth through effective sales strategies. Approximately 60% of the time will be spent visiting customers to maintain and grow business relationships, identify new opportunities, and represent our company in the field. Key Responsibilities: * Act as an active, front-line sales leader--personally engaging with key accounts while managing and supporting the sales team. * Visit existing and prospective customers (approx. 60% fieldwork) to develop strong relationships and promote company products. * Manage both retail and wholesale customer accounts, ensuring tailored service and growth strategies for each segment. * Develop and execute strategic sales plans aimed at increasing market share and revenue. * Identify and open new customer accounts; maintain and grow current accounts through regular touchpoints and service excellence. * Monitor industry trends and competitor activity; adjust pricing and promotions to stay competitive. * Deliver samples and support urgent orders as needed using the company vehicle. * Analyze sales performance data and prepare reports by customer and product line. * Set individual and team sales targets; track performance and coach team members to exceed goals. * Ensure timely collection of payments and manage any outstanding account issues. * Prepare for and lead regular strategy meetings with clients and internal stakeholders. Qualifications: * Minimum 5 years of sales experience at the Assistant Manager level or higher, with a proven record of increasing market share * Experience managing multiple customer types, including retail and wholesale accounts. * Strong leadership skills with experience as a hands-on "playing" manager. * Proficient in analyzing sales and customer data to develop effective sales strategies * Ability to travel 6-12 times per year and manage fieldwork efficiently * Bilingual in English and Japanese (a plus but not required). * Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and QuickBooks. * Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills. * Ability to travel frequently and manage fieldwork efficiently. * Valid driver's license.
