Sales Tax Associate Location: Middletown, OH (ONSITE) Job Type: Full-time Hightowers Petroleum Co. is a Licensed Motor Fuel Dealer and operates across the United States, Mexico and Canada. Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Sales Tax Associate to join our team in the fuel industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sales tax regulations, compliance requirements, and fuel tax reporting. This role will focus on preparing and filing sales tax returns, managing business licenses and registrations, handling tax renewals, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. Key Responsibilities: * Prepare and file sales and use tax returns, with a focus on fuel industry regulations. * Research and interpret tax laws related to fuel taxes, exemptions, and credits. * Ensure compliance with multi-state tax laws and reporting requirements. * Maintain and manage business licenses and registrations to ensure compliance. * Handle tax renewals and ensure all deadlines are met. * Maintain accurate tax records, reconcile accounts, and assist with audits. * Assist in tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities. * Collaborate with internal teams and external tax agencies to resolve issues. * Stay up to date with changing tax regulations and industry trends. * Utilize strong organizational skills to manage multiple tax filings, deadlines, and compliance requirements effectively. Qualifications & Requirements: * Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Bachelor's preferred). * Minimum 3 years of experience in sales tax compliance, preferably in the fuel or energy sector. * Strong knowledge of sales tax laws, fuel tax regulations, business license requirements, and tax renewals. * Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Excel. * Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. * Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with multi-state tax filings. * Knowledge of fuel industry tax credits and exemptions. * Familiarity with SAP, Avalara, Vertex, or other tax automation software.
