Full description of the position

JOB SUMMARY Facilitate the efficient and timely delivery of customer orders through the use of Roadnet software packages and associated utilities in the generation of the best possible route solutions. In addition, a router is responsible for creating routes that adhere to hours of service and weight laws and regulations. RESPONSIBILITIES * Routing of all customer orders in the most efficient way possible while under constant time and accuracy constraints while adhering to established procedures, protocols, and customer commitments * Plans routes. Maintains Roadnet system including integrating new customers into existing routes and planning for necessary route adjustments due to seasonality * Analyzes existing routes for opportunities to reduced, miles, delivery days and hours to improve cost control and consistency of deliveries. * Also, maintain and provide accurate daily loading and door information for the warehouse department * Ensures compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and other applicable regulations. * Creates proposals for transportation management to improve efficiency, customer service, and safety. * Utilizing specified software, route trucks by matching customer orders to appropriate loads assigned to trucks. * Utilizing specified software, balance loads per trailer by size and weight of product and pallets to be loaded. * Build cost effective routes while maintaining customer needs. * Prepare various reports on a daily basis, i.e. route changes request, sequence change requests, new customer request, etc. * Shift is Sunday-Friday from 5:00pm-1:30am with Saturday and one day out of the week off. RELATIONSHIPS * Internal: Transportation Supervisor and/or Transportation Manager; Sales and Warehouse Dept. associates; Delivery Drivers, and Dispatchers. * External: Customers. QUALIFICATIONS: * Excellent written and communication skills * Bilingual a plus * Ability to problem solve * Knowledge of Microsoft Office. * Attention to detail. * Must have excellent attendance. * Ability to make decisions both written and verbally. * Organize and prioritize multiple tasks. * On Call status required. * Ability to lift 40 pounds as needed. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: * High School Diploma * Some college preferred (Not required). * Personal computer skills and related software. * Must have excellent verbal and written communications skill set. * Food Background. * Previous routing experience preferably with Roadnet. Professional Skills * Computer Skills: MS Office (Excel). * Analytical/Mathematical Skills. * Accuracy, reliability and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. * Can add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. * Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. * Able to prepare reports and business correspondence. * Effectively communicate information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. * Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. * Related Experience: A minimum of 2 years in related environment * Must be able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations. * Must have computer skills - data entry, general report generation, spreadsheet design, data manipulation, mainframe downloads. * Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide). * Possess ability to resolve a variety of issues of fairly non-routine nature with some independence. * Ability to work scheduled hours and any required overtime.
