Full description of the position

The Director of Sales and Marketing (DOSM) is responsible for implementing and overseeing hotel sales strategies and realizing sales goals. The position's primary goal is to drive occupancy rates, grow existing accounts, and attract new group business to maximize revenue and meet or exceed profit goals. The DOSM will also play an integral part in the hotel's positioning in the luxury sector through tailored promotions, advertising, and public relations. The right candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a goal-oriented spirit, great energy and the drive to deliver an upscale experience to clientele and a return on investment to ownership and stakeholders. *ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES *Include the following; Other duties may be assigned. * Actively prospect group business to drive revenue, focusing on corporate, incentive, and social business. * Work closely with the Revenue Manager, Director of Catering & Conference Services (DOCCS), Piazza Hospitality Managing Partners and General Manager. * Compile reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales Department to include, but not limited to the annual and monthly Forecast, Marketing Budget, Lead Management System, Booking Report, star reports and STR reports. * Coordinate ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for the development of new marketing strategies. Make reasonable recommendations to improve potential of various markets. * Prepare the annual Sales & Marketing Plan and execute plans as outlined, critically examining and adjusting as deemed necessary by current market conditions. * Lead weekly revenue/marketing call with Piazza Hospitality Managing Partners and stakeholders. * Conduct monthly calls to lead and advise the Digital Marketing Consultant. * Develop marketing and PR initiatives to support sales strategies and activities. * Work directly with Piazza Hospitality Managing Partners and General Manager in building a clear and credible vision for the hotel. * Consistently review shifts in market mix with revenue and operations teams and make deployment/pricing recommendations * Collaborate with other department heads to promote areas of the hotel to assist in the achievement of revenue goals including Food & Beverage and Spa. * Responsible for management of sales and marketing budgets including forecasting monthly expenses and explanation of variances on P&L. * Clearly outline on the client's room block requirements, suite/upgrade requirements, meeting space requirements, budget information, decision maker/process and client's hot buttons. * Be able to discuss your current sales pipeline for any leads that will convert so the team can discuss transient rate strategy for that timeframe. * Host FAM trips and attend meeting planner events to secure new business. * Build and maintain long-lasting, strong relationships with customers while partnering with them to better understand their business objectives and needs. * Design and leverage all advertising and public relations opportunities. * Conduct site inspections and engage in proactive sales efforts. * Monitor actual sales and revenues to determine variance and assess goal accomplishments and adjust strategies accordingly. * Create an atmosphere in which timely information flows smoothly throughout the department. * Translate business needs into what needs to be done; ensure that all work is completed effectively; monitor the progress of work against schedules and budgets; maintain high performance standards. * Act as the hotel ambassador by establishing relationships with the community and industry associates. Promote high visibility for the hotel through involvement in city activities and community organizations. * Ensure a challenging and exciting environment to encourage full career development for department and personal growth for self. * Lead and foster a collaborative environment between all departments. * Provide proper collateral and information vehicles to keep customers informed and updated on the property. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Leads, trains and supervises the daily performance and efficiency of the Sales & Marketing Administrator. Leads and guides the social media consultant. Education and/or Experience * Must have experience working in a Director of Sales & Marketing role at a full-service luxury hotel/resort * Minimum 8 years of progressive responsibility in hotels required * Minimum of 3 years directing corporate group sales, business travel, tour and travel and special market segments. * Minimum 3 years managing personnel Pre-Requisites * Authorized to work in the U.S. * Good command of English language. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for negotiating, persuading, selling, and influencing other management personnel, hotel guests, and corporate clients. * Strong proficiency in professional selling techniques, including opening, probing, supporting, and closing sales. * Intermediate computer skills. Proficient in general computer systems particularly with Microsoft Office products. Active knowledge of PMS systems. * Demonstrated experience with industry specific sales programs including STS. * Strong analytical and strategic skills for effective sales deployment. * Solid time management, organization and prioritization skills. * Strong presentation abilities. * Proven capability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and solve complex problems while fostering a productive sales environment and consistent level of integrity. * Advanced knowledge of sales, marketing, and hospitality principles and practices. * Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up skills to build client loyalty and confidence. * Knowledge of transient business including contractual agreements and legal implications. * Financial analysis skills. Ties strategies and planned actions to results COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Job Type: Salary, Exempt Work Location: In-person at Hotel San Luis Obispo The budgeted salary that Hotel San Luis Obispo reasonably expects to pay for this position is $120,000.00 per anum plus a performance-based incentive plan. Rate of pay offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of consistent pay practices at the hotel.
