Position Summary This position works as part of a team of employees to load and unload steel products and help package them for transport, according to customer specifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Crane Operator/Material Handler position loads, unloads, and moves rolls of steel coils throughout the facility as needed. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: * Operate remote control crane safely and efficiently * Operate forklift safely and efficiently * Load and unload material from trucks * Properly identify processed material * Band coils securely to skids * Complete all associated paperwork thoroughly and accurately * Assist where needed with other responsibilities when not busy in crane operation and material handling * Maintain proper housekeeping of work area * Work collaboratively with other team members * Communicate effectively * Ensure all work is performed safely * Wear proper PPE at all times * Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) * Must be able to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide using decimals * Must have strong mechanical skills and aptitude * Must be able to understand complex verbal and written directions * Must have experience with overhead crane operation (Required) * Must be able to safely operate a forklift * Must have good communication skills * Must be able to work effectively with a team and positively contribute to the team's overall success and performance * Must have a high school diploma or GED (required) * Experience working with flat rolled steel a plus Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have any direct reports.
