POSITION TITLE: Sales Helper REPORTS TO: Sales Helper Section Leader CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal/Full-Time (as applicable) FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt OBJECTIVE: Under the direction of the Sales Helper Section Leader, the Sales Helper is responsible for the handling of merchandise purchased by customers while working within the framework of the Policies and Procedures Manual. Other duties will be as directed by the Section Leader or Customer Experience Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Provides assistance to customers and Sales Persons. * Ensures proper handling of merchandise to and into customers' vehicles, to prevent damage or loss. * Evaluates the needs for tie-downs, wind protection for foliage, and protective materials for vehicles, in order to prevent damage. * Initiates the gathering of goods promptly and courteously, as requested by Sales Persons and Cashiers, to accommodate customers and create and industrious atmosphere. * Maintains proper quantities of bagged goods, plants and other stock in displays and customer access areas. * Is at work on a timely and regular basis. * Initiates the cleaning of parking areas, store entry, sidewalks, bench areas, etc., to facilitate pleasant and safe conditions. * Acts under the direction of other superiors to accomplish any needs of the company, i.e. unloading trucks, making flat boxes, organizing or stocking merchandise, office and store clean up. * Maintains pleasant attitude and respectable appearance, wearing designated Southwood logo uniform, to enhance sales and encourage return business. * Assists with store setup and assists other departments. * Thanks customers for shopping at Southwood, and return carts to designated areas. * Completes other duties as assigned. Manages time and priorities. * Communication - Provides the information that people need to know to do their jobs; provides individuals information so that they can make decisions; is timely with information; practices attentive and active listening; is open to feedback; practices assertive communication. * Team Player - Is an active team player both contributing to the team and helping teammates succeed; practices team skills frequently; consistently reviews ways to support the success of others especially during busy season. * Southwood Culture - Embraces the mission, models the company's core values and demonstrates a commitment to the larger Southwood success. * Priority Setting - Spends his/her time and the time of others on what's important; quickly zeros in on the critical few and puts the trivial many aside; can quickly sense what will help or hinder accomplishing a goal; eliminates roadblocks; creates focus. * QUALIFICATIONS: * High School Diploma, AND * One to two years retail experience, OR * Combination of education and/or experience to meet the qualifications listed above * Must be forklift certified (or obtain certification immediately after hire) * PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: * Requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, balancing and lifting up to 50 pounds. * Is aware of normal work hazards and exposure to fertilizers and pesticides. * Work environment is a combination indoors in a greenhouse and outdoors in all types of weather including extreme heat, cold, and various types of precipitation.
