Director of Sales & Destination Services Sales Department * POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Sales and Destination Services will direct, motivate and lead the sales managers and assist in managing Destination Services. This highly experienced Director of Sales & Destination Services should have large convention hotel sales and a strong leadership background. Team San Jose is seeking an individual with previous convention center and/or Destination Marketing experience. The right individual will need to be organized, proactive and transparent. A self-starter with positive energy, excellent communication skills and a proven record of exceeding goals will be the best qualified candidate. Excellent leadership qualities as a coach and mentor will be required. An ability to bring discipline to the sales process through systems, planning and accountability will be key factors to success. The ability to handle pressure from inside and outside the organization is essential, as is the ability to handle confidential information and issues. The Director of Sales & Destination Services will represent Team San Jose and the San Jose Convention & Visitors Bureau (Visit San Jose) and work in cooperation will all community stakeholders to maintain a healthy working relationship in this public-private partnership. * REPORTS TO:* VP, Sales & Destination Services POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES * Directs, monitors and contributes to the overall economic performance of the organization through room night production and facilities revenues * Generates and manages sales efforts to effectively and most profitably sell hotel rooms and meeting space * Develops and supports sales leadership in the creation and implementation of strategic sales plans to accommodate corporate goals * Covers a sales territory directly with an individual booking goal * Develops and maintains stakeholder relations as they relate to business opportunities * Participates in sales forecasting and setting of performance goals * Reviews market analyses to determine customer needs, price schedules, and competitive rates * Assists in training and performance evaluations of the sales team * Analyzes sales analytics to identify areas where sales can be maximized * Meets with key clients, assists the sales team with maintaining relationships, negotiating and closing deals * Functions as a liaison between the Sales Department and other departments * Assists in controlling expenditures of the department to conform to budgetary requirements * Prepares periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of opportunity * Responsible for submitting required reports on a timely basis * Assists in maintaining compliance of use of all Sales systems * Assists with the development of the annual company budget using group forecasts, taking into consideration special events and market dynamics * Participates and presents when necessary in important meetings such as San Jose City Council, HBID, TSJ Board Meetings and others * Maintains an active membership in local industry associations and is a visible presence * Participates in writing the Marketing Plan (if applicable) to help determine goals and plans on how to accomplish those goals * Monitors and evaluates the activities and products of the competition * SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws. * Drive own vehicle for company business as needed * JOB REQUIREMENTS * Minimum of five (5) years leadership experience with convention and visitor bureaus, large hotels or convention centers with a demonstrated record of success * Strong working knowledge of the state, national and international association markets, corporate, third party organizations, and key vertical market segments that produce in second and first tier destinations * Previous convention center and/or DMO experience preferred * Experience selling a complex market that requires an aggressive proactive approach * Professional memberships and leadership positions in key industry organizations * Bachelor's Degree or equivalent * Strong computer skills, including knowledge of all Microsoft Office software * Ability to manage telecommuters and personnel in satellite offices * Well trained in the technical aspect of sales management * Disciplined leader with excellent organization skills * Analytical * A self-starter with positive energy * Excellent communication skills, written and verbal * Impeccable work ethic with a competitive spirit * Strong consensus builder and relationship builder * Proven sales record with a history of exceeding goals * Proven leader, motivator and coach * Professional maturity * Some travel is required * Must have a valid driver's license _ Team San Jose is an equal-opportunity employer._
