Full description of the position

The Maryland Department of Labor (MDOL) Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Intermittent Associate with the functioning title of Unemployment Insurance Claims Agent. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple current and future vacancies throughout the State of Maryland. All candidates must meet the minimum during the time of applying. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement. This position will also work a hybrid teleworking schedule. LOCATION OF POSITION Alleghany County Caroline County Cecil County Dorchester County Kent County Queen Anne's County Somerset Talbot Salisbury, Maryland Worcester County Wicomico County Main Purpose Of the Job The main purpose of this position will be to perform as a UI Call Center Customer Service Representative within the Division of Unemployment Insurance Claim Center, conducting interviews and gathering information to process Unemployment Insurance benefit claims. This role will require telephone and in-person services to facilitate the distribution of Unemployment Insurance benefits. Our main objective is to deliver top-notch, customer-centric services to promote the state's economic stability. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience -- Experience: One Year of general clerical or call center experience working with the public directly. Notes: 1. Applicants may substitute general clerical or call center experience, for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education. 2. Applicants may substitute 30 credit hours at an accredited college or university for one year of experience. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bilingual (Spanish) applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Personnel employed in this classification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment. All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment. BENEFITS Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year. FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS U.S. Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. Any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing a U.S. Military form DD 214 verifying honorable discharge from service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).
