Summary
Plans and manages activities for the Heavy Equipment Construction Division Sales staff leading to the profitable sales of Caterpillar Equipment.
Essential Functions
- Directs, motivates, develops, and manages the performance of the departments staff to achieve the overall goals of the divisions market share, profit and business plan. This will include such items as training and development, sales coverage planning, account development, monitoring sales calls and preparing reports, compensation planning, conducting performance evaluations, etc.
- Oversees the sales planning process, developing sales strategies and tactics that support short and long-range goals. Assists in the development of marketing plans.
- Works with the General Sales Manager to establish market share and revenue projections along with pricing structures.
- Interfaces with factory representatives to ensure positive relations between the dealer and factory. Assist in the development and implementation of the annual business and marketing plans for the department.
- Maintains records of sales activities, forecasts market trends, lost sales, and competitor information.
- Assists in inventory management relative to needs and configurations.
- Develops ongoing sales training process to address sales skills, time management, territory management, financial merchandising, product knowledge, competitive knowledge, etc.
- Monitors new products or services in our industry and customer industries to ensure that we maintain a competitive position in product offerings as well as customer needs and requirements.
- Develops and executes dealer corporate account strategies for specified accounts. Establish high-level relationships with key account decision makers so as to identify business opportunities and challenges.
- Serve as Carolina CATs primary contact for heavy equipment sales activities on Corporate Accounts, maintain customer satisfaction with all engagements, and serve as liaison between Customers, Caterpillar and Carolina CAT.

Education and/or Experience
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Bachelor Degree, preferably in business and/or marketing
- Minimum three years of experience in a Sales management role
- Senior level management experience
- 10 years minimum of industry experience.
- Preferred industry council involvement.
Computer Skills
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) CRM system
Technical Skills
- Must have good human relations skills and the ability to work with people from all backgrounds and cultures, internally and externally, with appropriate influence and ability to resolve business issues.
- Must demonstrate leadership skills to recruit, develop, and retain high performing Sales Representatives.
- Must have strong analytical skills, including problem solving, and the ability to understand numbers and financing plans to prepare deals for customers and to develop sales compensation plans.
- Must have a good understanding of Caterpillar and the dealer organization so as to affectively develop and communicate business opportunities and challenges.
- Must communicate effectively across product, industry, dealer, and customer audiences to ensure strategic and tactical alignment with these business partners.
- Must consult with Carolina CAT Managers, Dealers, Caterpillar Districts, and Caterpillar Corporate Account Managers, on the subject of account maximization in the area of market share.
- Must be able to self-manage assignments and stay current on industry trends, changing technology, and regulations affecting the competitive environment.
- Must be able to develop and communicate strategic business plans for the Heavy Equipment Sales area.
- Must understand the Caterpillar product line.
- Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures and standards.
- Strong product and service knowledge.
- Must be able to develop and calculate finance solutions for varied customer needs or demands.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Have a knowledge of financial merchandising and have the ability to calculate leases.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
