As a thriving auction company since 1960, we have been busy selling everything from combines & tractors to tillable farm acreage, hay, and livestock. We also sell an array of assets including construction equipment, large estates, business holdings, and more! From that time forward, the company has experienced a continued growth pattern & an expansion of offered services.

The Sales Tax Specialist at Steffes Group is responsible for the oversight of sales & use tax as it relates to auction activity, while specializing in compliance, planning, research, and support. This person will report directly to the Controller.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Research sales and use tax laws and regulations, apply relevant laws to company transactions, and recommend changes in company procedures to ensure compliance
• Communicate sales and use tax law changes to the organization on a timely basis
• Participate in sales and use tax audits, collect, and analyze required documentation, and respond to auditor inquiries
• Assist with preparation and filing of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns
• Manage the process of sales tax refunds, including the initiation, tracking, and timely resolution of refund requests
• Communicate and collaborate with relevant taxing authorities when appropriate
• Manage sales and use tax exemption certificates, including the verification, organization, and maintenance of accurate records
• Train and support others in the organization on sales and use tax compliance and procedures
• Occasional travel to other Steffes Group locations as needed
• Assist with other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelors degree in accounting or finance is strongly preferred, but relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
• Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience
• Strong understanding of sales & use tax regulations throughout the United States
• Fluent with Excel & other Microsoft Office products

• Ability to work both independently and closely with a team
