Maine Oxy has an open Store Support position in our South Portland, ME location!
Position Summary:
Store Support serves as a Counter Sales Representative and a backup Class B Driver for our store location. When you are in the store you will help provide product knowledge and technical expertise to our customers. Occasionally you will be asked to use your Class B CDL (with HazMat endorsement and airbrakes) to drive and deliver our cylinders and hardgoods to customers. This position is Monday-Friday typically 7:30 AM 5 PM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Counter Sales Portion:
- Assist in all phases of store operations.
- Provide customers with an additional level of product knowledge and technical expertise.
- Completes paperwork accurately and promptly according to company policies and procedures.
- Assumes the responsibilities of the Store Manager position when the Store Manager is absent.
- Serves as primary in-house contact for major customer base served by branch store.
- For selected accounts, offers special prices or discounts based on specific guidelines and in certain circumstances, negotiates payment form.
- Assists branch store sales staff in selling function and sales team in working up quotes.
- Responds to customer complaints by resolving the issue according to company policy.
- Serves as a support staff for outside sales.
- Labels products, stocks shelves, assembles machinery, conducts demonstrations, and arranges displays to enhance marketability.
- Help as needed in the warehouse with cylinders and inventory.
- Assists in maintaining a clean and neat store appearance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Class B Driver Portion:
- Performs pre and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting deficiencies and ensures all safety items are in good working order.
- Safely delivers hard goods orders and cylinders containing compressed gases to customers; returns empty cylinders to the plant for refilling.
- Maintains load manifests and all other vehicle documents, ensuring they are properly completed and balanced with truck counts and shipping documents before and after deliveries.
- Establishes and maintains good customer relations by communicating in person with customers, providing information on cost, ordering and delivery times, etc.
- Identifies and monitors customer needs and works with them to maintain proper hard good and cylinder levels to minimize or eliminate emergency deliveries.
- Operates a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment.
- Ensure all safety rules are strictly observed.
- Complies with all DOT and OSHA regulations.
- Maintains appropriate drivers licenses and endorsements.
- Maintains neat, clean, and professional personal appearance, and maintains vehicle appearance in a professional manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Customer service/sales experience a plus
- Possess or has the ability to learn about welding, gases and hardgoods. Prior welding/gas experience preferred but not required.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must meet all physical qualification standards imposed by regulations for drivers.
- Strong verbal communication skills, self-motivated, sense of urgency, well-organized, ability to achieve goals, and ability to focus and pay attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze a customers situation and help resolve customer problems.
- Team player with positive attitude.
- No at-fault accidents or moving violations in the previous 3 years.
- Ability to read and comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to work overtime when necessary.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year of driving experience or driving school training in the past 4 years.
- Class B CDL with HazMat endorsement and airbrakes (or ability to obtain HazMat endorsement within 60 days of hire).
- Industry and related product knowledge, as well as experience handling compressed gases, preferred.
- Computer experience or basic knowledge of computer order entry systems.

- Must be able to drive hazardous cargo for up to 8 hours; Frequent bending is also required.
- Frequent sitting and standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; may stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to perform very heavy workroutinely lift 25lbs to 75lbs, and occasionally lift 76lbs to greater than 100lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors in temperatures ranging from -10 to over 100 degrees.
- Ability to smell/hear leaking gas from cylinders.
