Technical Sales & Estimating Manager

BACKGROUND:

Stainless Process Systems ([please apply online] is a rapidly growing world-class manufacturer of stainless steel processing systems and equipment for the Pharmaceutical, Aerospace, Semiconductor and Food Technology industries. With a strong reputation for high-quality equipment and excellent customer service, SPS fabricates stainless steel equipment both as an OEM and custom (based upon our design) equipment supplier to domestic and global customers. SPS provides engineering servicesto ASME standards for the highest quality fabrication or repair of pressure vessels, technical processing equipment and non-rated tanks.

THE ROLE:

The Technical Sales & Estimating Manager is responsible for directing and executing sales policies, objectives and initiatives for SPS. This position is responsible for setting short and long-term sales strategies, evaluating the effectiveness of current sales programs, and recommending product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential. Using your knowledge of business concepts, practices and policies you will plan and accomplish sales and profitability goals. Additionally, this position is responsible for understanding what motivates customers to buy and know how to tap into those needs and desires in an effective way.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Managing manufacturing projects for customers from inception to final quote. Projects include the manufacturing of OEM products such as: pressure vessels, mixing tanks, and open top mixing kettles. Utilizing your knowledge of metallurgical properties, industrial processes and the company's manufacturing capabilities, you determine the feasibility of each customer inquiry and then work with the sales and estimating team to quote the project. You will work with customers to determine manufacturing specifications for each desired stainless steel product and are responsible for providing accurate cost estimates for rolling projects to internal and external stakeholders. For all active projects, you will also work with the team to procure cost effective raw materials and develop strong relationships with upstream suppliers. Key functions of this role include:

  • Oversee national sales, promotions, collections and other activities to achieve sales target.
  • Build positive working relationship with existing clients for repeat business.
  • Identify and contact potential customers for new business opportunities and new markets.
  • Participate in sales conferences, industry meetings, and social networks to represent companys brand.
  • Coordinate with management to develop sales plan, budget, and schedule.
  • Assist with product pricing by utilizing market research data, reviewing production and sales costs, anticipating volume, costing special and customized orders.
  • Computing cost factors to prepare manufacturing bids considering customer blueprints, scope of work, estimated labor, raw materials cost, quality goals, vendors or subcontractors, shipping and delivery timelines. These may require using ASME code software (e.g. COMPRESS) to aid in your design.
  • Consulting with customers, suppliers, or other individuals to research and formulate estimates to meet customer expectations.
  • Comparing orders received to quote and resolve any differences with customer and or purchasing.
  • Compiling statistics and preparing various financial reports for fine tuning quote generation and ensuring the profitability of each project.
  • Sales - work with the SPS Leadership Team to forecast any potential new business due to quoting activities, and help inform production of any potential new business and how it will impact schedule and resources. You will be expected to learn the E2 Shop Tech ERP system to support all of your quoting, planning, forecasting, and feedback to meet company objectives.
  • Customer Service - Establish and foster positive relationships with customers and ensure timely information flow to all internal and external stakeholders. Visit potential customer sites to assess projects and then estimate the scope of work and bid each job accordingly.
  • Continuous Improvement Develop, in partnership with our quality department, purchasing departments, etc., lean manufacturing activities that achieve budgeted expectations through scrap reduction, manufacturing optimization, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering or technical degree from four-year college or university and or equivalent technical manufacturing and sales experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in Technical Sales, Estimating and/or Manufacturing Engineering using knowledge of ISO, GMP, ASME and/or Aerospace standards.
  • Experience working on cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, design and project management teams.
  • Possess a craftsmans eye for cosmetically pleasing equipment to meet our customers high expectations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, engineering clients, and customers.
  • Must be a self-starter who has financial and business acumen, experience planning, problem solving, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in relevant software, working within ERP Systems, must be highly proficient in Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Very organized and detail-oriented, but also able to see the big picture and think strategically using data.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1 pressure vessel code.
  • Experience with welding and joint design of stainless steel, process piping and/or other AWS, BPE code specifications.
