Full description of the position

  • Our client is seeking an application engineer. This key role will involve working with representatives, resale agents and end-users in quoting, describing/explaining, and applying the product line including material handling fans, industrial shredders, trim cutters and many specialty components. The equipment is used in industrial/warehouse shredding applications and large central vacuum style systems to dispose of corrugated boxes, paper, foil, tissue, light metal/aluminum cans, plastic film/packaging, pallets, and plastics. After passing through our equipment the scrap is collected in a baler for recycling or compactors for landfill disposal. Each component has a unique design or feature. The equipment is not a commodity or generic item.

The core of the business is centers around finding efficient ways to break down and move scrap as it is being generated in the manufacturing process or a warehouse so that it can be easily recycled.

In this role the application engineer will promote aspire to learn how the product line works, why it is better than the competition, how to apply the products, explain the products to the customer, generate quotes, work with the customer to develop a solution to suit their needs and answers questions regarding the product with existing users. This includes talking to customers on the telephone, gathering project information and specifications by asking pertinent questions, exchanging drawings and ideas with the customer, making site visits (US/Canada only), acting as a liaison between the customer and company engineering, system measuring and system start-up (as needed).

The application engineer will report directly to the company president who is the current sales manager. After a knowledge base is formed the engineer will work with the sales manager and ad agency in the area of promotional development including magazine ads, web-site, on-line tracking, and sales conventions. If successful, the goal is for the engineer to become the sales manager. Dealing with the advertising is a minimal part of the job.

Beyond the above the engineer continually works with peer engineers, sales, shop floor staff and customers to troubleshoot problems, assess situations, and fix issues related to patented machinery.

This position does not include cold calling in person or on the telephone. The position does not include the requirement to know ACAD or mechanical drawing software. There are no sales quotas to meet.

The incumbent of this full time salaried role with full benefits and bonus potential will:

  • Use mechanical engineering aptitude to apply the product line.
  • Work with experienced engineers, sales staff and shop floor personnel to deliver customer and product based solutions.
  • Understand/read mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Use good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Use basic office type software programs.
  • Use a tape measure and wear work clothes/PPE when at customers facility.
  • Troubleshoot problems related to customer inquiries and specialized products.
  • Become the subject matter expert on a core of products with ability to add new application ideas while working with the customer.
  • Be willing to wear multiple hats to assist customers, peers and shop floor employees to deliver the highest service levels possible.
  • Be willing to travel as needed usually 1 to 3 days at a time a couple times a month.
  • Be willing to be helpful and friendly to the customers. This is essential to the companys success.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ years of experience utilizing engineering skills and working with customers related to engineering projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) OR two year degree mechanical degree with good communication skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Understand mechanical drawings and be able to explain changes required of them.
  • Ability to work a full time (40 hour) role in Germantown, WI
  • Field Travel in the continental United States.

  • Background in shredding/trim/material/conveyor handling systems or industrial application in the packaging, scrap handing or manufacturing.
