Job Title: Director, US Retail Merchandising Sales
A little bit about our team:
The Global Retail & Licensing team service the merchandise interests of Warner Music Group’s (WMG) artists, as well as ‘Third Party’ artists and licenses. We live at the crossroads of music and fashion. A variety of personalities, we are a small but mighty team that is nimble, proactive, and not shy to find and secure deals for our artists . The team is commercially focused, passionate and you will play a key role in taking the business to the next level. This role will be working with the entire team in varied capacities and across the diverse roster that include artists such as Lizzo, Logic, Grateful Dead and Green Day.
Your role:
You will be working with the biggest retailers in the US such as Hot Topic, Spencers, Target and Walmart - as well as best in class retail and licensing partners. You will be working with industry leading buyers, designers, manufacturers and product managers in a very entrepreneurial environment. You will also be leading conversations with legal, finance and supply chain as a key member of staff in a fast-growing area of the broader WMG business. At Warner Music you will not be working in a siloed environment, you will be exposed to cutting edge conversations around innovation and new business as well as immersing yourself with the hottest developing, developed and catalogue artists
Here you’ll get to:
  • You will lead all aspects internally and externally of our US retail business
  • You will work in a commercial and entrepreneurial environment
  • You will be the primary contact for all US retailers as it relates to the overarching business strategy and will be tasked in monitoring the business and ensuring growth be it in revenue, market share and awareness. Therefore, you will be expected to know your business inside and out in terms of the nuances of the artists, the retailers you work with, retail placement, challenges, and well versed in the areas that can be negotiated
  • You will be actively soliciting new business and will be expected to do so in any effective manner necessary be it in attending trade shows, exhibiting, scouring industry trades, researching via social media, etc. You understand that because we are in the music space that retail may be traditional in scope, but often are collaborative dependent on authenticity and brand integrity and not necessarily sales based and can navigate these types of non-traditional relationships as needed
  • Manage team of external retail partners directing them in new business acquisition and drive increased revenue targets
  • Manage an internal Retail Team
  • You will be comfortable working independently and stepping up as a leader as a senior person on the team and therefore should have a strong understanding of the business as a whole, be willing to travel for meetings in which a representative for the team is needed
  • You will be working closely with finance teams to ensure proper accounting and timely reporting across the full business
  • You will be responsible for identifying your annual budget and forecasting of all retail sales and working with finance to generate quarterly and compiling end of year reports on the state of the business with sound analysis to support
  • You will work closely with Creative, Head of Retail & Licensing as well as Label Marketing teams to create and execute long-term strategies by artist
  • You will open new retail accounts and set up new partnerships
  • You will be responsible for managing and driving a large part of the business units’ sales
  • You will prepare and lead regular in person and virtual presentations
  • You will present our business and artists to potential partners and brands. You will make direct sales into the accounts
  • You will send briefs to designers’ and work with product managers and artist to get artist approvals
  • You will give regular sales updates to internal stake holders
  • You will liaise with various internal business units to gather information and brainstorm how to hit our KPI’s
  • You will identify new business opportunities for artists’ management approval
  • You will prepare financial models for all aspects of your work
  • You will give regular sales forecasts and play a part in retail merchandise A&R
About you:
  • You can demonstrate experience working in an Account/Sales Director or B2B Sales Director role
  • You have experience opening new retail accounts
  • You have above average analytical, communication and Microsoft Excel skills
  • You will proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint or similar
  • You are passionate and self-motivated
  • You will be meticulous and organized
  • You enjoy hitting targets and are a goal orientated self starter
We’d love it if you also had:
  • Relationships with and contacts for US retail
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the retail industry
  • Relationships or previous experience working with lifestyle brands and licenses
  • A broad network of contacts to bring to the table
  • College Degree preferred

Salary Range
$125,000- $150,000 Annually
Salary ranges are included for job postings where required by law. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as work experience and business needs. The pay range is subject to change at any time dependent on a variety of internal and external factors.
