The Multifamily Community Energy Advisor connects community members, current and prospective customers to appropriate energy efficiency and clean energy programs and resources. They help community members navigate steps to participate in the programs, program financing, program benefits, and contractor participation and responsibilities. They also provide support throughout the process of seeking and accessing appropriate programs and services.
The Community Energy Advocate also focuses on driving multifamily property owner and/or management engagement through cold calling, door knocking, presenting at community meetings, meeting with owners, property managers and tenants and other grassroots outreach methods
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Multifamily Community Energy Advisor include:
- Facilitate awareness of the PUSH Green energy efficiency and renewable energy programs and benefits, steps to participate in the program, program financing, program benefits, contractor participation and responsibilities.
- Conduct 1-on-1 grassroots outreach efforts to move people to action.
- Engage institutional, organizational, and government partners in program endorsement, sponsorship, and constituent aggregation opportunities.
- Implement local outreach campaigns including mailings, flyers, organizing local events and workshops.
- Implement customer referral activities and peer-to-peer social marketing and networking to drive program enrollment.
- Conduct joint meetings with outreach partners to introduce programs and encourage participation.
- Serve as main contact for partner engagement with Community Preservation Corporation (CPC): Climate Friendly Homes Fund. Attend Monthly meetings, check in and complete monthly reporting and pipeline report.
- Recruit customers to participate in the program and focuses recruitment efforts within identified low-to- moderate income communities across Western New York in all five counties (Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Allegany).
- With support from the Director of Sustainability, carry out a Clean Heating and Cooling Communities outreach campaign for multifamily building owners and developers. This work is to be done in tandem with the work of the WNY Clean Energy Hub, CPC: Climate Friendly Homes and other programs with overlapping work.
- Pre-qualify and pre-screen participation in green efficiency programs, including financing programs.
- Follow up with prospects to determine interest in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
- Maintain customer lists to move customers through the process and guides customers to appropriate resources and programs.
- Manage customer projects and coordinates project management activities with contractors.
- Engage in continuous improvement of customer, contractor, and project management systems.
- Maintain current and up-to-date knowledge of energy efficiency program components, electrification programs, solar PV program components, and other related programs and processes.
- Meet contract goals for energy efficiency program implementation, including outreach and marketing goals, and completed jobs deliverables.
- Maintain compliance with NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) requirements for data entry, reporting and communications, as necessary.
- Attend regular trainings sponsored by NYSERDA, NYSERDA Clean Energy Regional Hub partners and other partners and funders for program information and updates.
- Complete reporting and communications requirements from additional funders, as necessary.
- Work independently and in collaboration with contractors to convert customer leads to contracted jobs using effective sales strategies.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- High School Diploma, equivalency or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid NYS driver’s license and access to reliable private transportation is required.
- Excellent customer service skills required. Prior service-related experience working with under-resourced and marginalized low-income communities helpful.
- Must possess excellent time-management and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word, Excel and OneDrive. Salesforce experience.
- Previous direct experience in energy retrofit sales and marketing or installation work, or as a consultant to energy retrofit industry partner is highly preferred.
- Building Performance Institute certification is also highly preferred.
- Experience with serving the needs of affordable multifamily properties, both regulated and naturally-occurring, helpful.
- Project management skills and experience, including basic knowledge of multifamily construction, ability to read and interpret construction specifications, work proposals, inspect energy efficiency work & other multifamily construction work for quality helpful.
- Familiarity with and ability to navigate web-based social networking and mobile software applications.
- Detail-oriented, self-directed, ability to work independently.
- A proactive, creative problem-solving, and flexible attitude.
- Willing to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary.
- Previous direct supervisory experience is preferred.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
