As a Field Application Engineer, you are the link between R&D, product development, customers and sales. Your goal is to generate technical solutions and successfully implement them for the customer. You will use existing products and concepts to work out system solutions for customers.

This requires in-depth knowledge of the product: You are familiar with the details from development to testing through to the sales strategy. As you will have direct contact with customers, you must have excellent communication skills.

The Field Application Engineer will be responsible for engaging with Group14 customers, managing the support of product evaluations or Group14’s products. As a FAE, the candidate will assist and support and advocate for customers in the evaluation, qualification, and ultimately design in and commercialization of the company’s materials for lithium-ion battery systems. To this end, the candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with the engineering, R&D, and business teams. Further responsibilities include supporting sales and marketing activities. Some domestic and international travel (Asia and Europe) will be required.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Be a customer “go to” product expert and support person for our silicon-based materials for Li-ion batteries.

You will be a subject matter expert in:

• 
  Properties of Li-ion battery materials.

• Electrochemistry of Li-ion battery materials.

• Evaluation and testing of energy storage materials / silicon anode materials.

• Customer qualification processes and activities.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• 
  M.S. or PhD in Material Science, Electrochemistry or equivalent experience in a relevant field.

• Knowledge of commercial electrochemical testing protocols and analysis.

• Knowledge of energy storage devices and device components.

• Understanding of appropriate electrochemical test methods and outcomes.

• Ability to clearly present results and make technical recommendations to customer and management.

• 5+ years of sales and customer support experience.

• Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, self-directed entrepreneurial environment.

OTHER QUALITIES WE’D LOVE FOR YOU TO HAVE:

• 
  Experience with silicon-based materials for lithium-ion batteries.

• Experience in synthesis of silicon-containing materials.

• Industrial experience in supporting evaluations and qualifications of lithium-ion batteries.

• Experience with international customers, especially in Asia and Europe.

• SAP experience.

• CRM experience.

• Experience with automotive or battery customers.

• Startup experience.

• Chinese speaking (for our customers in China).

The base pay range for this role is $80,000 to $120,000. Actual pay depends on various factors, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills.
