Patrick Engineering, A RINA company, is gearing up for substantial growth and as part of this growth, is seeking a Business Development Lead - Transportation who will focus on industry engagement and business development.
Job Summary
The Business Development (BD) Lead will be a key contributor to Patrick’s business growth plan. This qualified professional will lead the strategy for increasing sales and strategic growth in both the private and public sectors, as well as maintain strong, professional relationships with existing clients in the state of Wisconsin.
This individual will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of Patrick’s Wisconsin transportation marketing programs and initiatives and collaborate with local Patrick managers on developing and executing a strategic plan with annual and long-term goals. This includes overseeing client-focused, business development activities associated with planning, design, and construction opportunities, communicating local market trends, and reporting and documenting client budget and program plans with the intent to position Patrick to win work based on knowledge of the client’s program, culture, and key objectives.
The BD Lead must have established relationships with client decision makers, participate in industry events and activities, write proposals and develop presentations, as well as coordinate sales activities with others on the Patrick team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage Patrick’s transportation marketing efforts, communications and client development with our internal Marketing team and project staff with the emphasis on growing the team and revenue.
- Utilize personal network of industry professionals including clients, teaming partners, and subject matter experts to augment Patrick's current network and provide local relevant knowledge to increase Patrick's sales in Wisconsin.
- Monitor local Transportation market funding and procurement trends.
- Lead the development and implementation of Patrick’s strategic business growth planning for Wisconsin.
- Develop strong client relationships and serve as a key client manager for selected clients.
- Create and update client account plans that identify activities to be completed that generate growth in sales and demonstrate client advocacy for major clients (i.e., research client capital plans, track opportunities, established procurement timeline, understand client priorities, etc.)
- Maintain relevant data in CRM (primary repository for all company clients, opportunities, and client interactions).
- Complete client development activities to identify new project opportunities:
- Consult with internal and external resources to evaluate client requirements and develop a project pursuit plan to maximize Patrick’s probability of being selected.
- Develop capabilities presentations; work with subject matter expert(s), Marketing, and leadership on content development.
- Provide recommendations regarding improving proposal and presentation materials for winning new business opportunities.
- Coordinate pursuit activities with the Marketing team and assist the Division in preparing RFP responses.
- Participate in business and community activities as a representative of Patrick.
Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in appropriate engineering discipline or related discipline required.
- Professional Licensed Engineer in the State of Wisconsin.
- 15 years of experience with management responsibilities, proposal preparation, and project pursuit oversight, or similar related experience.
- Strong knowledge and experience with Wisconsin transportation marketplace clients.
- Established relationships with management and leadership personnel within Wisconsin public agencies.
- Demonstrated experience participating in client development activities to support new and existing client sales.
- Experience preparing responses to RFQs and RFPs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to communicate with personnel at all levels within Patrick and external contacts.
- Personal desire to grow and lead a Wisconsin design team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Commitment to quality, improvement, growth, and integrity.

- Percentage of travel (i.e. client sites) will vary based upon business need and opportunity pursuits.
