JOB DESCRIPTION
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
1. SALARY RANGE
$125,000.00 To $140,000.00 Annually

We are seeking a business Development Manager who will work closely with the Engineering Manager and who will serve as the coordinator of the marketing of professional services of the firm’s disciplines. Focus of this role includes all facets of marketing support, proposal preparation and presentation, information maintenance, market-specific collateral development, coordination with consultants and internal team, including principals and senior associates. Additional responsibilities include management of all areas of conference presence, including booth coordination, show services, promotional materials, client relations functions, firm visibility, and brand compliance.
3. RESPONSIBILITIES
Depending on the area of assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare proposals in response to RFPs, SOQs, RFQs, or various other requests; maintain database of proposal responses, research awarded projects and cost proposals from competitors.
- Prepare federal forms, including SF254/255/330s as part of proposal process for submittal to local agencies.
- Develop/update/maintain resumes, and project data sheets for inclusion in proposals. Develop presentations for selection phase of RFP process.
- Prepare contracts, as requested, and attain appropriate insurance certificates per the agreement for new clients and/or recently awarded projects.
- Conduct research through various bid services and government agencies to obtain new business leads and potential contracting opportunities.
- Apply, certify, and maintain firm’s Small Business/Micro Business Certification Program eligibility with applicable agencies (State of California, MWD, Port of Long Beach, City of Los Angeles, LAUSD, etc.) to ensure Small Business preference (%) in bidding opportunities.
- Responsible for research, preparation, composition and editing of materials for production of quarterly newsletters, marketing brochures, collateral, and corporate qualifications.
- Orchestrate firm’s appearance at yearly tradeshows/expositions, including the League of California Cities, California Contract Cities Association, CALBO Annual Business Meeting, and APWA Streets and Technology Conference. Duties include coordination of contract/payment, travel accommodations, scheduling of I & D and shipping, EAC, show services (carpet, electrical, material handling, etc.), promotional materials, and planning of all client relations functions.
- Compose letters/correspondence to clients/prospective clients, research/follow- up leads for potential new business.
- Responsible for development of targeted direct mail campaigns, including news/press releases, company announcements, etc.
- Responsible for development of advertisements, including layout, design, and text for use in print publications.
- Maintain database of elected officials and city administration of firm’s current and prospective municipal clients.
- Responsible for maintenance of company website via an online Content Management System.
- Prepare agenda, informational materials, minutes, and conduct marketing meetings.
- Train and Mentor other staff to support marketing functions as directed.
- Coordinate donation requests from various agencies or organizations.
- Generate innovative ideas and forms of implementation to enhance overall marketability of firm.
- Attend client functions such as the Taste of La Verne, the San Gabriel Dumpling and Beer Festival and the Taste of Walnut events, etc.
- Train and mentor other staff to support marketing functions as directed.
4. QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university is required.
License/Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License;
Insurance/Vehicle Registration:
Possession of appropriate and current vehicle insurance and registration.
Experience:
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge of:
- High proficiency of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Access,
Publisher, Outlook, Adobe Creative Suite.
- A/E/C industry and municipal contracting firms, including but not limited to: municipal engineering, building and safety, and construction administration and management services.
Ability to:
- Develop clear and concise written material through excellent writing and editing capabilities.
- Possess superior graphic design skills, including sense of layout and space, to create compelling materials and advertisements to promote brand awareness.
- Creatively guide the development of quality marketing support material, such as qualifications and proposal documents, resumes, project descriptions, presentations, and brochures as part of the effort to support the development of new business.
- Maintain a website, including FTP site, through use of an online Content Management System (CMS).
- Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work quality.
- Strong project management and coordination skills with the ability to complete assignments with limited supervision and within strict deadlines; ability to multi- task.
- Have a proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all colleagues, clients, City staff members, and elected officials.
The ideal candidate has strong organization skills and must be able to set appropriate priorities. This self-starter must be action-oriented and should be prepared and willing to take reasonable risks and assume responsibility for his or her own work. He or she is perceptive, creative, and innovative and visionary.
