Job Overview
The Group Sales Manager position is responsible for developing market segments and achieving room night and revenue goals for hotel. The Sales Manager supports the overall sales strategy as implemented by the Director of Sales and Marketing. The market that this position would handle is all groups with or without a food & beverage component from a minimum of 10+ rooms on peak and higher.
The person having this position must possess good communication skills, have the ability to resolve conflict, be able to work on site at the hotel, and have a thorough understanding of LINE policies, procedures and expectations.
Because of the fluctuating demands of the company’s operation, it may be necessary that each
employee perform a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your position, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employee is expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Respond to internal and external Sales inquiries or requests and provide assistance as needed
- Redirect Sales related calls or distribute correspondence to the appropriate person of the team
- Act as a liaison with other departments or functions (Operations, Front Office, F&B, etc.)
- Actively solicit new and existing accounts to meet/exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, outside sales calls, site inspections and written communications
- Adjust group pricing and recommend group concessions as needed to secure group business in support of hotel budget targets
- Use company wide programs, sales developments, prospecting tools and reporting for group business development
- Follow up on all business inquiries and leads to generate group room nights and associated food and beverage revenue to impact RevPar performance
- Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual revenue and direct sales goals including outside sales calls, prospecting calls, site inspections, and entertainment as outlined
- Develop and maintain rapport with hotel community and key community contacts to ensure a visible presence in the industry
- Perform customer site inspections to uncover needs and present solutions that will maximize booking opportunity and create strong customer relationships
- Understand and utilize the sales tools the company provides and to follow and support all sales and marketing operating systems. Ability to sell all hotel products and services
- Review daily arrivals to isolate potential new clients
- Participate in meetings with hotel staff and clients, including but not exclusive to: Morning Operations Briefing, Sales Meeting, Pre-Convention Meetings, and Planning Visits
- Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
- Balance operational, administrative and colleague needs
- Maintain awareness of documentation needed and retained in employee files
- Ensure staff understands their job expectations before holding them accountable
- Be familiar with all safety and emergency procedures including OSHA requirements

Knowledge, Requirements and Skills
- Four-year college degree preferred
- Must have a minimum three (3) years of experience in hospitality group sales required
- Market knowledge preferred
- Strong experience in Group Market preferred
- Strong ability in using MS Office (MS Excel, Word, and MS PowerPoint, in particular) Delphi, Opera and access database tools
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle data with confidentiality
- Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English Language
- Excellent organizational, time management skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask
- Work well under pressure, requires being a team player
Working Conditions/Environment
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
- The person having this responsibility may have to lift up to 20lbs on an occasional basis
- The person having this position may have to sit for eight (8) hours, stand and/or walk, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for one (1) hour per day
