Founded in 1905 in Birmingham, Alabama, AMERICAN is a manufacturer of fire hydrants, valves, ductile iron pipe and spiral-welded steel pipe for the waterworks industry and high-frequency-welded steel pipe for the oil and natural gas industries. As a sales representative, you will be responsible for planning, marketing and sales for our ductile iron pipe and spiral weld steel pipe. Our ductile iron pipe is used for municipal water and wastewater distribution and transmission markets, industrial, and power markets including fabrication for treatment plants and pump stations. Our spiral-welded steel pipe for the municipal water and wastewater transmission markets, industrial, hydroelectric and power markets including large diameter fabrication for treatment plants and pump stations.
After your training period in Birmingham, Alabama, you will report to your territory where you will begin developing positive, long-term relationships with potential and return clients. Our sales representatives are involved in the entire process from marketing through implementation by educating clients through lunch and learns, preparing accurate and timely quotes, overseeing the ordering and handling of all accounts within your territory.
Sales Representative Key Responsibilities:
- Pre and Post bid management
- Establishes and develop long term relationships with owners, engineers, contractors and distributors
- Manages distributor sales force including price, conflict resolutions, relationship building, product training and sales force training to ensure that the distributor's actions are in AMERICAN's best interest
- Handles all bids within your territory
- Maintains a minimum of ten pending projects
- Establishes long term sales and marketing goals for territory and works to meet goals

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid driver's license
- Good communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret specifications for projects
- Open to transfer within the U.S. and within the Sales Division
- Ability to work with confidential information
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software
- Willing to work overtime as needed
- Available for travel a minimum of 60% of the time
- Ability to handle stress and multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in technical and communication skills
- Familiar with AMERICAN's manufacturing process
- Experience with CRM software, preferably Salesforce
