As a sales support senior channel planner, you will work closely with the Key Account managers to support customers within your assigned channel(s). Channels assigned could include but are not limited to Mass (Walmart, Target), Hardware (Home Depot, Ace), Sporting Goods (Dicks, REI), Party (Party City), (Kroger, Albertson’s) and several others. This role will require strong communication skills as you will work with cross functional partners (analytics, finance, supply chain, brand management, marketing, etc.). As a senior channel planner you will develop a deep expertise of your channel, analyze trends, and make recommendations to support the customers and the business.
This position will also require people leadership, where you will manage another channel planner.
Key Position Results
- Apply a marketing mindset to identify opportunities for growth within channel(s)
- Help facilitate the commercialization of brands within your assigned channel(s)
- Ensure accurate sales forecasting by brands and products used for production planning and provide guidance to support optimal inventory needs for customers/channels
- Timely issue resolution both for customers and internal customers
- Effective communications both internally and externally
- Manage and develop others in the channel planner role
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with the key account managers and cross-functional teams to support customer specific initiatives by serving as the project manager and developing selling/story-telling materials that enable opportunities across the channel/customer such as product line reviews, merchandising for key drive periods, consumer (brand) activations, point of purchase material, and customer specific events to drive brand performance and value creation to the customer. (20%)
- Analyze and review customer performance to accelerate category growth, best manage inventory, promotional strategy – E.g., POS analysis, Ecommerce. (20%)
- Drive the demand planning for customers by developing the forecast with customer insights and aligning with the key account managers and cross functional teams. (15%)
- Understand market, shopper and consumer/customer insights and conduct retail price and performance audits to help inform channel planning and execution. (15%)
- Lead and develop the channel planner role. Leverage company’s Performance Management Process to set meaningful goals tied to company objectives. Deliver performance feedback on a regular basis. (15%)
- Work with key account managers on tradeshows. Coordinate necessary activities across the cross functional teams. May be required to travel to select shows. (15%)
Critical Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to translate data and insights into action for customers
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Strong process and detail-oriented skill set
- Effective listening and intellectual curiosity to identify and connect problems and/or opportunities to solutions
Education / Training Required
- Travel up to 15%
- Bachelor’s Degree from four-year College or University (preferred)
- 4+ years of experience working in Consumer-Packaged good organizations preferred; marketing experience preferred
