Full description of the position

As a leader, the VP of Business Development is the face of the business in its efforts to expand the business in the overall industry-specific space. They are expected to determine and implement the best approach to gain market share in the existing parts of the market where TGS has customers / projects, while also growing the company’s reputation within the other and newer segments of the industry.

The VP of Business Development is responsible for managing the business development team members under their direction and will be heavily involved in providing initial information and feedback on estimates for projects and rates for various services provided or anticipated to Business Development team members and/or Project Managers prior to presenting to prospects or clients. They are to maintain their industry expertise and utilize their established relationships with influencers within their sector of the market to put the organization in the best position to gain business. The VP of Business Development also closely monitors their team’s performance to targeted goals, including resource balancing, and compensation plan creation to maximize sustainable end market growth.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND ACTIVITIES:

  • BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
    • Establishes sales and marketing guidelines to target specific end markets
    • Leverages current industry expertise and relationships to nurture and grow overall business opportunities
    • Identifies emerging market potentials and assists all departments in developing the capability to make the most of these opportunities
    • Monitors customer, market, and competitor activity and provides feedback to company leadership team and other company functions
    • Works closely with the marketing function to establish successful support, collaborate on content creation, channel, and partner programs

  • PROCESS DEVELOPMENT
    • Leads initiative to standardize business development activities and marketing efforts to maximize success and growth
    • Provides any necessary feedback with Project Managers and other Shared Services groups to ensure quality of work is consistent and reporting measures are in place for ultimate client satisfaction
    • Assists in providing input to Human Resources to identify potential Sales / Business Development Team members that would be an ideal fit in the sales team
    • Due to close relationship with customers, position may identify inefficiencies related to project work and provide feedback to resolve any bottlenecks or delays in current processes to Project Management / Shared Services group.

  • COMMUNICATION
    • Fosters and maintains effective communications across the company, including the executive leadership and those in other departments
    • Collaborates with the Project Managers / Shared Services, providing customer intel, direction, and guidance as appropriate to maximize customer success, project success, and sector growth
    • Prepares findings in high impact and easy to understand presentations for various audiences on behalf of executive leadership

  • ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
    • Confers with company leaders to plan business objectives, to develop organizational policies, and to coordinate specific functions
    • Provides a strategic customer base plan, along with goals and objectives, to support the annual business plan and growth goals
    • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning
    • Drives continual improvement throughout all functions, processes, and procedures, primarily in sales and business development, but also may provide feedback on performance to Shared Services / Project Management when appropriate based on project and customer performance

  • STAFF DEVELOPMENT
    • Leads and manages the Sales / Business Development team members, providing guidance and instruction where needed
    • Determines staffing needs to work effectively and meet company initiatives
    • Assists with all interviews for identifying new Sales / Business Development team members and recommends any deserved promotions from within
    • Leads overall employee development initiatives, career paths, and employee growth initiatives for their team

  • SENIOR LEADERSHIP
    • Provides senior leadership with a dashboard of sector-related performance metrics, along with the impact on the business at agreed upon intervals
    • Provides proactive guidance to the senior leadership team on areas of needed improvement or market trends which may impact the organization
    • Is persistent in achieving goals and metrics and ensures appropriate levels of escalation to achieve results in a timely manner

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with clients focused on all types of project development, operations, acquisitions, and divestitures
  • Strong understanding of all regulations and governing bodies within the energy industry
  • Strong understanding of the Transglobal value proposition for various customer profiles within the market, services, and benefits of Transglobal’ s proprietary technology platform (TGS Transform)
  • Very strong communication skills – both internally and externally
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills required
  • A problem solver who uses research and data to identify current and potential problems, along with the proposed solution
  • Desire to be informed of the newest trends and policies in the energy sector
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • 8-10+ years of progressive work within the energy industry
  • Proven experience building and cultivating a partner ecosystem to drive new business growth
  • Experience providing solid and successful business recommendations
  • Experience sourcing and implementing new programs and/or software, from concept through completion
  • Demonstrated experience growing business within the specific sector of the industry

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Innate ability to lead and influence others, both with internal and external clients
  • Ability to develop and nurture long-lasting relationships within the industry sector
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation and persuasion skills

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This role supports multiple members of executive leadership and will necessitate some evening and weekend work along with periods of travel (up to 30%).
