Full description of the position
PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Reporting to the President of Global Paper, this role will lead the commercial function for the open market sales of Paperboard in North America (NA), Asia Pacific (APAC), and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The organization is responsible for generating more than $2.0 billion in annual sales revenue and is composed of approximately 50 sales professionals across the geographic regions described above. As part of the Global Paper leadership team, the selected candidate will be responsible for directing and implementing the commercial strategy for the business, as well as developing a best-in-class culture and leading a high-performing team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop the overall go-to market paperboard strategy for the assigned geographic regions, including unique strategies based on geographies, end-markets, products and channels.
- Develop a detailed understanding of competitors, customers, and other key market factors to help inform global paperboard strategic decisions
- Align and lead the business to deliver sustainable growth, increased revenue and margins, and improved customer satisfaction
- Implement customer experience strategy and initiatives to enhance key business relationships
- Formulate and deploy commercial best practices within the team, incorporating enterprise strategies and initiatives to drive profitability
- Identify and implement appropriate margin assessment frameworks and value add margin improvement priorities consistent with overall business strategy leveraging existing commercial excellence framework and current CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, etc.).
- Ensure employees understand and are aligned with company culture, strategy, and business objectives
- Interface with the Supply Chain team, Operations team, and peer sales leaders to support consistency of approach and communication to the customer
- Partner with the Pricing, Innovation, Sustainability, and other teams as necessary; co-lead work with the Sustainability and Innovation teams on customer solutions
- Actively develop individual talent and expand team capabilities to elevate the practices of the commercial team
COMPENTENCIES
Commercial Excellence: Strong track record of sales management experience for $750+ million businesses; solid understanding of pricing, solutions development, and strategic marketing in addition to sales
Business Acumen: Analytical and data-driven with strong metrics approach; strong financial skills and capable of negotiating complex deals with executive level customers. Experience in General Management is a plus
Multi-Geography Experience: Experience leading a diverse, disbursed team across a multi-geography platform
Team Leadership: The skills to attract, develop, and retain outstanding talent. Strong emotional intelligence (EQ) with the personal gravitas and style to promote followership.

REQUIREMENTS
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required; an MBA is preferred
- 15+ years of progressive commercial management experience; a mix of sales, marketing, general management and/or product management is preferred
- Experience in engineered solutions and/or materials is preferred; experience in packaging is not required but advantageous
- Experience working in a multi-geography environment is required
- Proven track record of successfully working as a business partner with the senior management teams within the customer base
- Demonstrated experience in building, developing, and motivating a high-performance sales and commercial team including experience with organizational design/development, assessing GTM models and aligning sales compensation incentives as needed
- Strong business and financial acumen required; understand and utilize metrics/measurement to ensure success
- A hands-on leadership approach in leveraging systems and processes to drive significant and profitable growth
- A team developer with proven and tested human resource skills and people leadership is a must.
