Full description of the position

The Colorado Longitudinal Study (COLS) is building a uniquely powerful biobank that combines biological samples with health and lifestyle information to fuel innovation in disease prevention, early detection, new therapies, and optimized treatments. COLS will work collaboratively with academic, government, and industry researchers to deliver dramatic impacts on health and health equity.

The Director of Corporate Development will report to and work closely with the CEO and President of COLS. Additionally, the Director will work closely with other members of the Executive Team and the Board of Directors to advance the mission of COLS and shape COLS strategy. The Director will serve as the principal point of contact for corporate partners and will drive the development of alliances that advance COLS and partners’ strategic objectives.

Major responsibilities and duties

  • Develop and expand collaborations with companies and other organizations in the healthcare and life sciences sectors that address partners’ strategic imperatives while generating revenues for COLS and advancing the COLS mission of building a world-class longitudinal multiomics biorepository. Examples could include biotech, pharma, and diagnostics companies as well as public- and private-sector payors.
  • Manage ongoing relationships, including fulfillment of partners’ reporting requirements;
  • Establish the foundations for these alliances through effective outreach, relationship-building, and networking;
  • Serve as a primary COLS representative in meetings with potential partners, at conferences, and in other forums;
  • Develop communications materials in coordination with COLS’ marketing team and leadership;
  • Oversee prospect research, fundraising database and tracking systems;
  • Maintain compliance with external regulations and internal policies;
  • Assess and report progress toward meeting objectives;
  • Coordinate with COLS staff who are involved in philanthropic development activities;
  • Other responsibilities, as determined by the leadership team that advance the mission of COLS.

Qualifications and skills

Required

  • At least five years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostics, and/or payor sectors
  • Strong track record of deal-making and alliance development over a minimum of three years, includingPartner identification (organizational and individual levels)

Alliance conceptualization, including clear definition of value propositions
Negotiation, including effective collaboration with counsel
Ongoing alliance management

  • Financial acumen and analytical skills;
  • Project management skills;
  • Partnership outlook that focuses on collaborative problem-solving and delivering mutual benefits;
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, and communication skills, including experience making business and scientific/technical presentations; balanced perspective that includes both the COLS mission and getting deals done;
  • Displays a positive attitude, shows concern for people and community, appreciates diversity, demonstrates presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability;
  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree in a relevant field within the broad domain of biology/biochemistry/genetics, MBA, and/or JD preferred).
