BASIC FUNCTION: The overall objective and purpose of the Catering Sales Manager is to prospect Catering Sales opportunities for the property to maximize revenue. Act as a liaison between the sales and operations departments of the hotel to ensure a successful event for the clients and all of the client’s needs are met and communicated accurately and efficiently to all departments of the hotel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respond and sell to all telephone and walk-in inquiries within set standards.
- Conduct tours of property to potential customers while informing of all hotel services available; entertain customers on property during site inspections, pre-planning trips, and program operation when appropriate.
- Complete required site forms to alert the hotel of the tours.
- Follow up on outstanding proposals and contracts to effectively close business.
- Collaborate with culinary operations in creating custom menus specific to clients’ budget needs
- Create Event Orders and Resumes pertinent to finalizing details for each event.
- Attend daily/weekly/monthly meetings and any other functions required by management.
- Keep abreast of all local organizations and their meeting plans, etc.
- Perform outside sales calls, to gain new business and maintain relationships.
- Complete approved number of prospect sales calls daily.
- Ensure orderly and accurate catering sales files and computerization of such files are maintained.
- Prepare catering contracts and proposals.
- Implement strategies toward gaining new markets, increasing average checks, upselling menu items, etc.
- Maintain accurate, organized and up-to-date files including computer filing and sales platform records (attachments, traces, activities, etc.).
- Perform other related duties as requested by Director of Catering and/or Director of Sales
- Recommend profit improvements to Director of Catering and/or Director of Sales
- Practice safety standards and report any unsafe conditions to the Director of Sales
- Remain alert, courteous and helpful to guests at all times.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respond to any reasonable task as assigned by Manager.
- Interface positively with other departments, offering assistance when needed.
- Stay current with Delphi trace list and account data.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Knowledge, Training and Work Experience
- College degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Working knowledge of a hotel.
- 1 – 2 years previous experience in the hospitality industry.
- Must have knowledge in Delphi FDC platform.
- Highly developed communication skills.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Publisher and able to learn the Delphi system
